I had eight mercury fillings put in my mouth when I was young.
Eight.
That’s a lot of metal parked right next to my brain for decades. Like most people, I trusted the dentist when they said silver fillings were safe and standard.
The conventional health playbook told us they were fine, cheap, durable, and nothing to worry about.
But after years of digging into holistic healing, I now see mercury amalgams as one of the most under-discussed sources of chronic toxicity, which drives a long list of chronic health issues.
Stay tuned; I’ll share my own story with my eight mercury fillings and exactly what happened to me…
Mercury is one of the most toxic heavy metals on the planet.
It’s a potent neurotoxin that can damage nerves, disrupt hormones, impair immunity, and interfere with nearly every system in the body.
Governments and health agencies warn against mercury in fish, water, and industrial exposure.
Yet when it comes to dental amalgam, those silver-colored fillings that are roughly 50% mercury, the story suddenly changes.
Dentists and mainstream doctors insist they’re perfectly safe. They’re not lying out of malice in most cases.
They’re simply following the conventional playbook they were taught: quick, inexpensive, and “evidence-based” according to the institutions that train them.
My suspicion runs deeper.
A system that profits from chronic illness has every incentive to keep people sicker for longer.
The more biological debt we carry, the more prescriptions, tests, and specialist visits we need.
After five years of experimenting with holistic health, mineral rebuilding, and gut repair, this pattern is obvious to me. I hope it becomes obvious to you too.
The body has limited ways to eliminate mercury.
When your mineral status is strong and your detox pathways are working, you can clear some of it.
But most people today are mineral deficient and dealing with gut issues, which means mercury gets stored in tissues, especially the brain, kidneys, liver, and nervous system.
It builds up slowly over years. That’s why the damage often feels gradual and mysterious.
The first major problem is what mercury does once it’s in the body.
It crosses the blood-brain barrier easily, which explains the neurological symptoms like tremors, memory issues, and tinnitus.
In the gut, it disrupts beneficial bacteria while allowing pathogenic ones to thrive.
This creates dysbiosis and increases endotoxin (LPS) leakage from the intestines into the bloodstream.
That inflammation can fuel depression, anxiety, and systemic fatigue.
The conventional system treats these as separate problems, a pill for mood, another for digestion, something for the nerves, never connecting them back to the metal sitting in your teeth.
Here are some of the common problems I’ve seen linked to long-term mercury exposure from amalgams:
Tremors and peripheral neuropathy
Tinnitus, memory loss, and increased Alzheimer’s risk
Gut dysbiosis, leaky gut, and depression driven by endotoxin leakage
Chronic fatigue, brain fog, and nervous system instability
The biggest issue with mercury amalgams is that they never stop releasing vapor.
This isn’t a one-time event when the filling is placed.
Mercury vapor is released every time you chew, brush your teeth, drink hot liquids, or even breathe.
Studies show measurable mercury vapor coming off amalgams for decades.
The longer the fillings stay in, the more surface area gets exposed through wear and corrosion, and the more mercury enters your system.
Unlike an acute poisoning event, the exposure is low and constant, exactly the kind that slips under the radar of conventional testing and symptom checklists.
The third problem most people don’t realize is that simply getting the fillings removed isn’t enough if it’s not done correctly.
Standard dental offices often drill them out like any other filling.
That process generates heat and microscopic particles, releasing a massive burst of mercury vapor that you inhale or swallow.
Many people report feeling worse immediately after “routine” removal because the exposure during the procedure overwhelms their system.
This is why you can’t just walk into any dentist’s office and ask for replacements with composite or ceramic.
The way the procedure is performed matters enormously.
I say this because I made that mistake a few years back…
After starting to study holistic health, I finally realized how toxic mercury amalgams really are, so I had all eight of them removed one by one over a period of a few weeks.
I went to a regular dentist who didn’t fully understand the dangers of mercury vapor. I didn’t realize the problems that occur during removal itself.
Right after the procedures, I crashed hard: chronic fatigue, tinnitus, constant nasal congestion, subtle tremors in my hands, and clear signs of endotoxin leaking from the gut (flaky dandruff, brain fog, and exhaustion after almost every meal).
It took months to stabilize, and even now I stay conscious about supporting my body’s detox pathways because that much mercury doesn’t leave quickly. It can linger for years.
Thankfully, the symptoms are resolved, but the experience taught me never to underestimate this hidden load again.
