Example drawing from Session 3: ‘She floated like Chagall…’

There are 6 sessions in total (running through April, May & June) but they can be taken as individual classes too, so I thought it would be helpful for me to share what we will be doing in each session. (Spoiler alert: LOVELY STUFF!!)

Each class is like a recipe, for journaling, for drawing, for you, if you you want a system to follow that will encourage you to explore your creative self without having to rely on finding images or scrolling through your phone.

We will do LOADS of really quick drawings which are great to use for colour experiments and scrapbooking. Stick into sketchbooks or journals and add text around the images…an instant sketchbook page!

In addition to the main theme of the workshop, I’ll also be sharing lots of other lovely stuff including examples of how the techniques fit into my own practice, sharing my drawn and written journals, lots of enthusiastic chit chat and any other nice things I’ve seen/done that week. Hopefully all very inspiring! xx (Oh, and the ‘cut & colour’ badges will return! New ones for 2026, a lovely addition to your sketchbook!)

In every session, you’ll be guided through:

  • A simple, engaging warm-up exercise

  • A focused drawing practice

  • A short journaling prompt

Sessions are lightly guided rather than heavily taught, with encouragement, prompts, and inspiration to help you find your own way.

You can buy the classes as a bundle (cheaper if you intent to buy all six) or individually

Thursday 16th April 7-8.30pm BST (access the recording from 18th April)

In this session we will working through a collection of short drawing exercises which combine looking and then remembering what you have seen! (it’s easier to remember with a pencil!) It works like magic to help you see and to help you draw, especially if you are a beginner.

(If you sign up for this session, and then wish you’d bought the bundle, don’t worry, I’ll send you a discount code after the class so you’ll get it all for the bundle price!)

Thursday 30th April 7-8.30pm BST (access the recording from 2nd May)

We will be working through a collection of short drawing exercises which combine looking and then changing what you see. We will work from historical images, and a little bit from our imagination, to create images of ourselves as artists. It’s an intriguing process and great way to begin to draw people if you are a beginner. For more experienced artists, it’s a very effective technique to loosen up!

Thursday 7th May 7-8.30pm BST (or access the recording from 9th May)

In this session we will working through a collection of short drawing exercises which embrace a different way of looking and drawing an object in front of you. We will work from observation and imagination to create a collection of images from different view points. It’s a process which is quite literally liberating (both for your mind, AND the laws of physics!) because we aren’t bothered about proportion or perspective, just lovely drawing!

Thursday 21st May 7-8.30pm BST (or access the recording from 23rd May)

We will working through a collection of short drawing exercises which combine two layers of materials in a very loose and lovely way. We will also be drawing and printing with water soluble materials. It’s an effective way of doing quick, informal drawings that look very ‘designed’ but the process is very relaxed and nicely surprising! Work in your sketchbook or onto scraps of paper which can be collaged into your sketchbook or added to a homemade concertina book. We will combine our wonky drawings with a bit of easy poetry which looks great weaving in and out of your artworks!

Sign Up for Session 4

Thursday 11th June 7-8.30pm BST (or access the recording from 13th June)

In this session, we begin looking at windows and doors in art as we look inside and outside the home, experimenting with a few interesting rearrangement techniques using observation and imagination. This is a really useful device for journals and telling the stories of both home and travel so a really handy idea if you’re off on your holidays soon!

Thursday 18th June 7-8.30pm BST (or access the recording from 13th June)

Our final wonky drawing club session! we work completely from memory and a place of deep happiness. Reflecting on this, we will use a happy memory as a prompt for a small illustrated narrative. You could use the techniques in this session to create a tiny comic or small illustrated story. There will be short prompts for writing and drawing which come together to form a rather lovely piece, greater than the sum of its parts and a nice addition to a reflective journal or travel book.

(You don’t need any previous experience to take part in this class, stick people and simple shapes are just fine to tell your lovely story!)

Well, it’s a special place for people who are happy to embrace an imperfect approach to life and to drawing. It’s very inclusive and extremely kind.

This year, the Wonky Line Drawing Club focuses on drawing from observation and memory—a process that encourages you to trust your instincts, combine what you see with what you imagine, and create work that feels more personal and expressive.

Rather than aiming for ‘perfect’ drawings, these sessions invite you to embrace a more illustrative, intuitive approach, where there is no right or wrong, just a process of discovery.

Hope you can join us!

Lucia xx
