SKILL ISSUE · SKILL ISSUE

It’s that time of year again, and no, I don’t mean pumpkin spice lattes. It’s finally the start of the fall gaming season, and with a lot of upcoming game releases in the next few months, we can still expect many more announcements. In fact, Gamescom did that for us. Now, while I wasn’t able to attend Gamescom this year, I have many thoughts about the latest games revealed over the last 24 hours, and I wanted to share them with you. So welcome to another edition of Gaming Roundup, where I tell you about the games that caught my eye. ;)

| Release date: Spring 2027

| Platform: PS5, Xbox series x|s, Epic Game store, Steam

At first glance, I thought this trailer was the elusive game OD: Knock. However, surprise, it’s Perceptum. I really love games like this, specifically because I enjoy getting a scare here and there, and this game absolutely looks like it’s going to deliver on that. One thing that caught my eye was the camera motion and the blinking animations. I feel like they truly brought home this realistic environment. Rather than the camera being completely still, you feel immersed, as if you are literally looking through the eyes of the main character, which a lot of people pointed out is an old woman. But you know what? I’m rooting for grandma here, and I’m excited to see what Perceptum will bring when it releases in spring of 2027.

| Release date: Coming 2027

| Platform: PS5, Xbox series x|s, Epic Game store, steam

The gameplay got me, it absolutely got me, and I’m already there day one. The trailer was phenomenal, but what wowed me most was the control over the environments. That definitely stood out as the gameplay showcased how we, as the player, will be able to navigate different areas using the power and magic as our main character. I think a great example of this type of control is near the end, where we see the player cast a spell as a way of manipulating the environments to take out more than one enemy. If you ask me, that’s the first time I’ve seen a game allow me to take out an entire kitchen to cast a spell and make it rain. We don’t have an exact date yet; however, the game is set to come out in 2027 (RIP to my wallet).

| Release date: Coming soon

| Platform: PS5, Xbox series x|s, Epic Game store, steam

During my last roundup, I totally forgot to mention this game and how it caught my eye. Nevertheless, each time I see it, the more I need it in my hands immediately. To me, Tides of Annihilation is truly making its mark in terms of its style and gameplay, which briefly reminds me of games like Final Fantasy 16 and Stellar Blade. Most recently, news broke that the voice of the main character, Gwendolyn, had changed from Jennifer English to Angela Sant’Albano. Both voices for this character were absolutely amazing, and I’m excited to see how Angela’s performance plays out when the game releases.

| Release date: TBA

| Platform: PS5, Xbox series x|s, Epic Game store, steam

Reminiscent of a more recent release with anthropomorphic animals, Star Fox, Zoopunk is the latest action RPG in the diesel-punk genre from TiGames. I did a bit of digging because this was my first time hearing about this game, and it appears to be an expansion of the world from the game F.I.S.T: Forged in the Shadow Torch. The action elements in this game have me immediately sold, and I’m willing to wait however long it takes for this game to come out. In the meantime, I guess I need to catch up with F.I.S.T, huh…

| Release date: February 23rd 2027

| Platform: Xbox series x|s, PC, PS5

Can it be February 23rd yet? Honestly, I cannot explain how much Fable keeps blowing me away each time I see it, but oh my god. I am eagerly checking off the days, awaiting this game’s release, because you all most likely will not hear from me in months when I get my hands on it.

| Release date: 2027

| Platform: Xbox series x|s, PC, PS5, Nintendo switch 2

I am a sucker for art styles in games, and what I didn’t even know I wanted was this style in an Animal Crossing game. Beyond that, Acornia: Mirror Worlds is adorable. It claims to be a bake-and-brawl management adventure game where you jump from dimension to dimension, swallowing and spitting treats at foes and customers. I will forever love 2D versus 3D styles in gaming, and Acornia appears to nail every aspect of this. No release date yet, but it’s set to come out in 2027.

| Release date: Spring 2027

| Platform: Xbox series x|s, PC, PS5, Nintendo switch , Epic Games Store

Are we surprised that this game is here? No, but what can I say, this game has me wrapped around its finger. Yesterday, Final Fantasy 7 Revelation made its second appearance since Summer Games Fest, and in this trailer we get a few more snippets of the game as it primarily focuses on the “weapons” within the story, most of which I was incredibly afraid of the first time I saw them in the original. Now we do get a few clips here and there, and for keen-eyed fans, one thing that would stick out to you is that we finally got a brief look at the submarine sections of the game. So the knowledge that mechanics were implemented to navigate the skies, land, and now the ocean has been confirmed. Now I’m awaiting that space announcement, but so far I’m afraid for my PS5’s life, as it might explode within the first few minutes of me playing this game. However, while we haven’t gotten a release date yet, we are still promised a spring 2027 release, which I think could fall somewhere between the end of February and or early March.

And so concludes my Gamescom roundup. Did I miss some? Most likely, but hey, I couldn’t wait any longer to talk about this. To make up for it, tell me which games interested you the most. I need my long-awaited list of games to look like a CVS receipt. Until next time!
