Back to Business!

Oh my gosh, hey, how are you… So, as you may have noticed, I have been gone for a MONTH. One of my last posts was on my birthday, which was… in July and featured my love letter to Final Fantasy VII. Around the time I posted this, the gaming industry was hit with massive news, and I never got the chance to share my thoughts on this incredibly large elephant in the room, which is partially why I disappeared for a while. So I figured now is the perfect time to talk about what’s coming next for Skill Issue and, most importantly, where I’ve been.

So, getting to the beginning of all of this, we all know that on July 1st, news that Sony would stop producing physical media entirely shook up the entire gaming space, and as a fan, this hit hard, as it did for many others. One of the big reasons I started this publication was to share my love for video games and my perspectives on them as a whole, but after the news, I couldn’t really bring myself to play any games, knowing one of the biggest aspects of me being a gamer was going to be gone soon.

However, somewhere within this time away, I realized how much I’ve grown here and how welcoming this community has been to me. Between the wacky and chaotic posts I make, I want to keep going as a way to make Skill Issue something that brings a smile to whoever happens to cross paths with them and to create conversation among all of you!. Which brings me to a few small announcements. ;)

While I’ve grown up with games from the past, there’s so much more I haven’t played yet. Most of my work so far has covered games that debuted most recently. However, this new series is my love letter to games of the past and my goal of sharing my first-time experiences as someone who didn’t grow up with some of these games with all of you. I think that playing a game, regardless of what it is, for the first time is so magical and an experience that’s hard to replicate, and I want to document my journey and share a bit of my thoughts on these first-time playthroughs. As a first step, I’m happy to announce that I got my hands on a PS2 (FINALLY) and have been having so much fun with it over the last couple of days. And this console has the greatest lineup I have ever witnessed.

However, this isn’t the only thing I’ll cover here. I’ll still go over games, both new and old, as I try them for the first time, especially given that my backlog must be crying in a corner right now. But I felt this would be something fun to add to this publication.

Sunday spotlights! You may be wondering what else?. I have one more, I promise, but Sunday spotlights will serve as small articles going over one particular Sunday indie recommendation, whether it be a demo I tried out and think the game has a lot of potential, or a brand-new full release. I want to dedicate a part of my writing to the indie space, as it’s bursting with creativity, and I’m always looking to try new things. And why Sunday? They’re just the cozy days for me, especially for a nice Sunday morning read.

Now this is where you come in. Now that I’m back, I have quite a few new subscribers. Hello! If you’re reading. I hope this gives a good idea of what’s coming, especially with Gamescom around the corner, where I will have a lot to talk about.

Now, the question I have for you is, as I start this journey, what are some PS1-PS3 era games you’d recommend I check out?
