A day trip from London; more RSA meetups, and Longplayer at the Roundhouse.
This day trip from east London to Rendlesham Forest and its two former RAF bases runs only once per year, in the depths of winter. It takes a day and it really is a trip: to the Suffolk coast; to the 1980s, and to the kinds of big ideas and deep thinking that often comes up in these circles…. but with better music. And yes, this is all directly linked to the Long Now. We just can’t tell you how until you’ve been.
Last year some of us made the journey and loved it so much we asked Minimum Labyrinth to run one of their London walking tours just for us back in February. If you enjoyed that, you will want to do this. We really cannot recommend the “Rendlesham” experience highly enough.
In November, our first gathering at the RSA since 02019 was well attended and it looks like the December meetup (this Thursday) will be just as busy.
At the start of 02025 we are bending our rules just a little and meeting on 16th January (the third Thursday) so as to coincide with the launch of “The Bright Side” by one of our own, Sumit Paul Choudhury - a deeply researched investigation into the psychology, philosophy and practice of optimism.

On Saturday 5th April 02025 Longplayer will be returning to the Roundhouse in Camden for the first time since 02009. Many Long Now London regulars have booked their tickets, as have friends and community members from elsewhere on this and island and even overseas.

The performance is from 7:20am to midnight and we can come and go as we please. If you would like to coordinate your visit with us, please let us know via our Luma event page. We will update that page as our plans for the day firm up.
The Long Now Foundation recently released the first volume of their annual journal “Pace Layers”. In the words of its editor Ahmed Kabil, “Pace Layers was conceived as a bridge between our founding concepts and where we find ourselves today. Each annual issue will provide a snapshot of The Long Now Foundation as it evolves”. Amongst other brilliant contributions is a written piece by our very own Jamie Stantonian on on why we from Long Now London choose to chalk the horse (which can also be found here for the time being).
