We’re at an inflection point, whether we feel it or not. The Citrini Research report that made the rounds last week is speculation. For now. But, it’s a plausible timeline. By 2028, AI-driven automation could collapse labor markets with a crash. Productivity spikes with AI automation, sure, but so does chaos. Wealth concentrates, jobs vanish, and institutions lag so far behind they might as well be offline. This isn’t some distant sci-fi flick. It’s what happens when we prioritize speed over sense, and scale over stability. And guess what’s currently being pushed from the top?
Then there’s the date that should make you pause. The U.S. Department of War declared a domestic AI company a national security threat. Not for building dangerous tech. For refusing to let it be used in domestic surveillance and automatic military targeting. Let that sink in. Meanwhile, DHS and others are pouring millions into expanding surveillance through ad-tech pipelines, facial recognition, and data brokers. Last week, a simulation showed AI choosing nuclear escalation in 95% of conflict scenarios. Not because it’s malicious. Because it’s trained on human history, which is basically a highlight reel of bad decisions.
Current AI doesn’t think. It guesses. It reflects our biases, our noise, our worst impulses, then serves them back with confidence. Hallucinations aren’t bugs. They’re features of a system that mimics understanding without ever having to mean it.
And the money circus only makes it worse. AI funding is the financial loop in the room that everyone sees but isn’t looking at. Chip makers funding hyperscalers funding model shops that buy more chips. CapEx that now exceeds the total cost of building the entire US interstate highway system. It’s a bubble on steroids, inflated by hype and fear of missing out.
But here’s the good part. Anthropic said no to surveillance contracts. Users are questioning ChatGPT’s new deals. People are actually reading privacy policies again. Every time someone double checks an AI output, uses a tool with limits, or just walks away from the hype, that’s resistance. The system wants you passive. Stay sharp. Stay skeptical. And remember: the future isn’t written. We still get to argue about it….for now.
