I have an alarm on my phone that I can’t talk about fashion with my partner after 8PM. This is because most of my life revolves around it: from design, graphics, brand, content, etc. - I really do run a one track mind.
Not that I mind (I wouldn’t have it any other way), but I was reminded of this because after a long week, I spent my off day going to a fashion event during the day. When I got home, I promptly then told my partner that I had made plans for us later this week.
Last Week: Adhere To x The Pull at Leisure Center
It’s actually the first time I’ve been in the this space, and it was cool to see Vancouver based Adhere To in person. Their attention to performance minded construction is definitely clear and I can appreciate that they don’t play by all the rules/conventions typically found in their genre of clothes.
This Week: Body of Work Pop Up at Enishi Space
Love that another event is bringing me to new spaces in the city. Body of Works’ latest drops not only have the perfect colours going into the season, and I’m certainly excited to check them out for the first time in person.
THIS WEEK ON THE TIMELINE
Him Movie Trailer
The excitement for this movie is definitely palpable. As a fashion + design dominant newsletter, I’m also very curious about those studded under armour / compression layers they’re wearing. If you’re more athletically inclined and in the know, drop some knowledge in the comments.
FASHION
Carter Young SS26 is inspired by a short story
Love an obscure inspo reference. I admittedly don’t know much of the brand Carter Young outside of a quick scroll thru their socials, but their SS26 collection came across my screen via Eye mag. I couldn’t help but be drawn to the laid-back prep, soft tailoring and construction (the shot of the back of the mac coat is *chefs kiss*) and colour combinations.
URU is on some nerd shit (Complimentary)
On some comic book shit, I wonder if this brands name is a reference to the metal in Thor’s hammer. On some equally fashion nerd shit: this feels right in the vein of fun colours meets sophisticated tailoring and unexpected details of what makes Auralee, AKOG, and the aforementioned Carter Young so great.
Front Office’s 1 Hour Long Interview with Lorenzo Osti of CP Company
It’s no secret that Ken & Front Office are a big inspiration for my current project, Held in Form. I love the way his transparent, democratic approach to design that still feels elevated and considered. Do yourself a favour and play this on the background at work and get lost in discussion on design, culture and familial histories.
Why Luxury Brands are Obsessed with Workwear: Taste is Learned & Performed
Also in the fashion education content sphere, Simon sent Tuba’s video to me this week as it was tact consolidation of everything we’ve been talking about for the past 6 months or so. I wasn’t familiar with Tuba’s content before, but I’ve definitely subscribed since!
Street Grandma & Firme Atelier on Tech Packs
I’ve been making a conscious effort to pay more attention to Womens brands and creators lately. Too much bro’s talking about selvedge denim and slub baby tees will really do something to a man. In all seriousness though, it’s extremely refreshing to see how much more expressive and non-monolothic how the other side of the industry approaches content, brand and design.
I wanted to feature this video specifically, because Street Grandmas’ build in public tone and explainer on tech packs felt very “under the hood” focused which is typically found in young menswear labels. The difference though was it lacked some of the male ego-driven “look at me teaching you” vibe that I usually snark at.
Also, Firme Atelier’s signature look of tatted up Asian Foo’s making dresses will not never speak to me.
