I hope you had a wonderful holiday and that 2026 is off to a great start.
The last few weeks have been absolutely nutty—preparing for upcoming gigs and working on my Stephen Schwartz show—so I haven’t had time to write a proper newsletter. But I did want to touch base today and let you know that my sister Ann and I are livestreaming our show Boom! on Saturday night at 7:00 ET. With all the craziness in the world right now, if you could use a fun diversion, I urge you not to miss it.
Boom! is one of my favorite shows Ann and I have ever done. Tonight is actually opening night—and the 15th anniversary of the show. In case you don’t know Boom!, it’s an evening of songs from the ’60s and ’70s—the soundtrack of our childhood.
It has been no easy feat relearning a show we first did so many years ago. It’s been a huge help having the live album we recorded at Birdland as a reference. Still, relearning a show after all this time has been challenging—especially the song “Come Together.” It is much harder to learn lyrics now than it was 15 years ago—I mean, back then I wasn’t even a member of AARP.
Here’s a little brain-fitness challenge for you: try memorizing the first two verses of “Come Together” and you’ll see what I mean.
Here come ol’ flattop, he come groovin’ up slowly
He got joo-joo eyeball he one holy roller
He got hair down to his knee

After our NYC run of Boom! ends, I fly to California on Sunday for three shows next week in Palm Springs, Florida, and Ohio. In other words, wheeee!

Once, when I was playing mixed doubles, my doubles partner said to me, “So you’re a singer—you just show up and do the concert, right?” Uh, not quite. This visual might give you a little insight into my life over the last few weeks.
