Reader,

There are two marginal Bitcoiners.

The sovereign minded like Simon Dixon. And there’s the statists like British Hodl. Both exist and can exist together.

Simon’s position:

It doesn’t have to. Bitcoin doesn’t require everyone to self-custody or run a node. It just needs enough people who choose to remain sovereign by self-custodying their Bitcoin and running a node to preserve Bitcoin’s decentralization. Not everyone uses asset protection

BRITISH HODL ❤️‍🔥🐂❤️‍🔥@BritishHodl

If you have 100% self custody Bitcoin at this point after The Bitcoiners are telling you it’s probably safer to be on exchanges now AND other bugs are being actively found on other wallets. You’re a masochist. Bitcoin self custody is finished for any serious capital.

Something to ponder on…

How many nations are there?

How many billionaires?

How many regular people?

The math does not lie. It reveals a brutal truth… sovereignty does not scale.

Outside of corruption and inside favors, what separates the individual from the institution?

The work.

To be sovereign means being able to protect what you own.

The nation has a government. Lawmakers and standing armies. The billionaire has an administration team. Lawyers, advisors, security personnel and administrative assistants. The individual… What do they have?

What do you have?

A single device?

Is that enough? Clearly from the Cold Card exploit the answer is no. Many people believed the talking heads that all it takes is a device but neglect to mention the rest.

The tide of truth pulls back on the beach to show every influencer standing naked. Naked and ashamed.

We will leave the battered and bruised egos alone for now.

Lets look at the question: how does sovereignty scale?

Through systems.

Nations have armies. Billionaires have teams. You the individual need the same. A lawyer to navigate the waters. An accountant to chart the map. These are the first members of your own army.

Geography matters. Sovereignty which lives in a single area is one that can be revoked. Multiple passports and residencies aren’t luxuries. They are options. They give you the ability to say “no” to government overreach. As with your footprint you spread your coin globally.

Having personal protection is also part of the question but not the headline. Self defense and being strong are good forms of deterrents.

I am no billionaire. No millionaire. But I have had my own run ins while running a business. My experience has shown me that defending yourself does not always mean physical.

If an individual were to ask “how to start” my opinion would be have at the very least two professionals in your camp. A lawyer. An accountant. Talk to them. Build the relationship.

For your coin… I stand with my original statement from years ago. Unless you build the cold storage yourself (including entropy) your funds are still at risk.

And lets be real. The risk was never the machine. The risk was and always will be human.

But look at a bigger picture.

Simon says with regard to holding your own stack…

“But anyone who is willing and able can.”

Not everyone will. And they wont. But those who can might. It takes work.

We need to understand why sovereignty as a goal matters.

“Wealth is the ability to fully experience life.” — Henry David Thoreau

Wealth is not a number.

A number measures your capacity to buy things. It doesn’t measure your health. Your relationships. The meaning in your life. The character you develop. The freedom of your time, choices and ability to say '“no.” It doesn’t measure your peace of mind.

On paper one might look rich while in life be poor.

And people who are paper poor live rich and fulfilling lives.

The entire idea of trying to become sovereign in my humble opinion has more to do with being able to fully experience life than it is about how many figures your wallet shows you.

Being able to own your own money, which I have expressed as a representation of your time and energy, is the goal.

Not because it beats inflation. Because it allows you to use your economic reserves how you want. When you want. Wherever you want. All as a means of experiencing your life fully.

We aim for sovereignty because it allows us to do just that.

Be free.
