…and sometimes I get really desperate. I was up all night because next door’s dog was crying. The neighbors have gone out of town. He (it’s a he) sounded so quiet, because he was behind a wall, I thought it was a little animal, perhaps a possum, a baby who had somehow lost its parent. The sound was quiet and haunting and repetitive.
It was a big old dog, sobbing, from behind a wall.
And I wondered whether people can hear each other when they suffer around Earth, because Earth is so big, it makes us sound tiny, like the Whos in Horton Hears a Who. And when we make sounds we barely understand one another, it seems.
The appeal went really quiet these last few days. A huge donation made us confident that we could reach a new goal of $20,000. But right now we’re not so sure. It’s very sad for us, because those poor people STILL have no water. No water!
Some people collect water on their roofs in big tanks, and they might have some…but for FOUR weeks and more? It sounds unlikely.
We’ve heard about power. Sometimes power has come back for one or two people, but there are loud explosions and sparks and it’s not trustworthy.
So these solar generators we’re getting and the sterilizing pens are just essential.
PLEASE share this appeal. It’s the only way we’re going to make it. We don’t have enough to help everyone yet. We’ve only been able to help about six people, to be honest. This is a HUGE emergency. It’s happening NOW.
At 5:30am I went outside and heard that it was the dog, sobbing. And that’s when I spoke to to the dog from behind the wall. I know he can hear me with his super hearing, because he’s gone quiet. I don’t know his name yet but over the months he’s come to accept us and call to us in loving and friendly ways when he’s outside.
