Overcomers (by Litwithprayer) · Overcomers

Last week, we talked about living a life in the Spirit and how to let the Spirit lead you so you can overcome the Spirit’s enemy: your flesh. If you missed it, you can catch up on that message here: [Life In The Spirit]

Today, I want to dive into the soul, which plays a crucial role in living an overcomer’s life. This will be a two-part series. Today, we focus on the mind. In the next post, we will finish by looking at the will and emotions.

Your soul consists of your mind, will, and emotions, and each plays a vital role in how you experience life:

  • Mind: What I think about.

  • Will: What I do with what I think about.

  • Emotions: What I feel as a result of what I think and do.

“For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.”Hebrews 4:12

We are starting with the mind because it is the entry point for the rest of your soul. Think of it as the “Lead Domino”—what happens here dictates the direction of your entire life.

The mind is the intellectual part of the soul where you process information, create beliefs, and store memories. This is where you decide what you believe about God and how you fit into His story. As A.W. Tozer famously said: “What comes into our mind when we think about God is the most important thing about us.”

The mind is like the command center of your soul. Since God gave us the gift of thought, we must be aware that whatever occupies our mind most will eventually flow into our actions and affect how we feel.

The Connection to Your Heart

While the mind is the Command Center, your Heart is the “Wellspring” or the source of your life.

“Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life.”Proverbs 4:23

Think of it this way: Your heart is the Root, but your mind is the Gatekeeper. If the Gatekeeper allows toxic thoughts or worldly labels to enter, they eventually take root in your heart.

The mind’s greatest power is agreement. A thought is just a suggestion until you align your mind with it. When you agree with a thought, you give it the opportunity to enter your heart and shape your reality.

Jesus described the devil as the “father of lies” (John 8:44). To guard the gate, we must recognize the strategies the enemy uses to suggest lies to our minds:

  • The Accuser (Revelation 12:10): Floods your mind with guilt over mistakes already forgiven.

  • The Tempter (Matthew 4:3): Suggests short-term fixes over long-term peace.

  • The Deceiver (2 Corinthians 11:14): Makes “Worldly Labels” feel more true than your identity in Christ.

  • The Roaring Lion (1 Peter 5:8): Uses “what-if” scenarios to paralyze you with fear.

Remember: Identifying the source of the thought is 50% of the battle.

If this message resonated with you, or if you know someone currently walking through a “storm” of their own, please consider sharing this with them. You never know who is waiting for a reminder that their diagnosis is not their destiny.

Thanks for reading Overcomers ! This post is public so feel free to share it.

Agreement is often a slow process where we give the enemy ground in our lives:

  1. Passive Acceptance (The Entrance): A thought enters, and we fail to challenge it.

  2. Identification (The Internalization): The thought moves from “something I heard” to “who I am.” Be careful what you attach to your “I am,” because your mind will fight to stay consistent with that identity.

  3. The Foothold (The Deepening Trench): When you identify with a lie, it creates a Stronghold (2 Corinthians 10:4)—a habit of thinking that keeps you trapped in cycles of defeat.

Renewing your mind is a daily choice. Think of it like a garden—you have to pull out the weeds (the lies) so the good seeds (the Truth) can grow.

“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God...”Romans 12:2

  1. Identify the Lie (Spot the Label): Ask, “What lie am I agreeing with?”

  2. Discover the Truth (Find the Blueprint): Look to God’s Word for the replacement.

  3. Resist and Rebuke (Say No): Vocally and internally reject the lie.

  4. Renew Your Mind (Walk the New Path): This is repentance, which simply means “to change your mind.”

Who have I been listening to? Look at the thoughts that have occupied your mind most this week. Do they sound more like the “Accuser” and the “Deceiver,” or do they sound like the “Father” and the “Spirit”?

What “Labels” have I been agreeing with? Are there any “I am” statements you’ve been making—like “I am just a failure” or “I am always going to be this way”—that you need to stop agreeing with today?

I want to encourage you today to pay attention to your “Gatekeeper.” When a thought enters your mind that makes you feel anxious, unworthy, or stuck, don’t just let it sit there. Use the four steps we discussed: Identify it, find the Truth, resist the lie, and renew your mind.

Father God, thank You for the gift of my mind. Help me to stay diligent today in holding on to the truth of Your Word and rejecting every lie and accusation that comes from the enemy.

I choose to align my thoughts with Your promises, which remind me that I am loved, highly favored, forgiven, and free in Christ. I am not a victim of my circumstances; I am a child of God—chosen and free to live my life anew in Christ today (2 Corinthians 5:17).

Thank You for giving me an abundant life (John 10:10), full of Your grace and goodness that follows me everywhere I go (Psalm 23:6). Your Spirit is in me, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom (2 Corinthians 3:17). I thank You for choosing me, equipping me, and loving me so much. Thank You for helping me overcome every challenge that may come against my family today (Romans 8:37). I love You, and I thank You for helping me experience Your light and love.

In Jesus’ name, amen.

Do you know Jesus?

If you have never asked Jesus to be the leader of your life and forgive you of all your sins, this is the right time to act. Pray this simple prayer and believe it in your heart: “Dear God, Your Word says that You loved me so much that You sent Your Son Jesus to die on the cross for me. I want to be saved and have all my sins forgiven, past, present, and future. Forgive me now as I receive Jesus as my personal Lord and Savior. You promised me salvation and an abundant life. I believe and receive Your free gift. Fill me with Your Holy Spirit and help me grow stronger in You each day, in Jesus name I pray, Amen.” (John 3:16)

The Lord is gracious and full of compassion, Slow to anger and abounding in lovingkindness.
