Lighting as Art

For me, I approach the process of lighting selection like curating an art collection, each piece chosen not just for function, but for the atmosphere it creates. Like art, lighting makes a room come to life, and getting this right is one of the most important elements when designing an interior.

I love the process of finding interesting pieces and when I was sourcing lighting for my home Villa des Fleurs I spent months hunting, sometimes a single fixture set the tone for an entire room. There’s a magic that comes from pairing the unexpected until the space feels alive. Think Murano glass paired alongside a sculptural metal piece or vintage forms crafted from rope or bamboo.

Of course, a clear and considered electrical plan is the backbone to a perfectly lit space, and in my experience, this is often overlooked and overcomplicated. Too often, homes are overrun with down lights, leaving living rooms glowing like a Christmas display. With a considered layout, a home needs very few (if any) down lights or dimmers.
