HELLO, you Beautiful Soul!
Taking a moment or two to honor Cancer season and the feels it brings. And as a person with a Cancer Moon - oof, those feels can be INTENSE.
When we examine our thoughts and beliefs, the way we consider ourselves and others, the world around us, it can touch on some hurts, pains, even guilt or shame. As uncomfortable as this may be, it’s an essential part of the process of releasing the thoughts and beliefs that no longer serve you.
Part of the process of learning empathy is experiencing things to be empathetic about. And no, I’m not condoning self-loathing or self-deprecation, we do enough of that on our own without adding to it. This is about acknowledging the idea that if some of the ways we were conditioned or programmed to think and believe does not align with our lived experiences or our current views, then perhaps the way we view others is rooted in similar limiting or false beliefs.
It’s important to feel into the limiting things you think about yourself; the things you believe about yourself, because it’s a window into how you also view others and the world around you. Look at it from an outside perspective, as if you were watching someone else whispering those beliefs to a younger/past version of you. How do you feel witnessing that exchange from today’s point of view? Do you feel disappointment, sadness, discomfort? Me, I’m usually pissed off. Both at the person for selling the bullshit and myself for buying into it. I’m supposedly an intelligent and educated person. What would people think if they knew I fell prey to a phone scam that drained our bank account? I know better. How did I allow myself to be misled? How did I miss the signs? How was I able to crumble to fear so easily that I threw “common sense” out the window? How?… because the universe likes to teach me empathy through practice. (Harumph)
Apparently I’m really fucking stubborn in my own beliefs and ways of thinking, so in order to change what’s limiting or stupid, I have to go through it. And frankly, I believe that there is a deeper form of empathy derived from the lived experiences. There’s the “I can imagine being in your shoes and I can feel what that might feel like”empathy. And there’s the “I’ve fucking been there and I know what that feels like”version. That’s the one that gets me to stfu for a minute and really look at what that belief is.
And without the cringe, we wouldn’t grow. We would continue on as if we were oblivious. My, well, my Tracy (who is a multi-hyphenate in my life) and I were chatting about our podcast from 5/6 years ago and she mentioned how cringe some of the stuff we said was. To which I replied, “Thank the deities. Could you imagine if we were still the same people thinking and believing exactly the same way?”
Society advances because of challenges and change. Change in so many ways. The more souls that populate the planet, the more opportunity there is for amazing growth as each soul is its own unique entity waiting to explore the wonders of Mother Earth. How much of a shit show that choice to incarnate is depends on the soul’s lessons and contracts. And we grow by navigating those lessons and experiences.
So. If you believe that you have a soul, and that soul came here to experience the full spectrum of the human experience, then you will see that you need to grow beyond what has been presented to you, and FEEL into what resonates with your body. Anxiety, discomfort, fear, those things are meant to trigger us toward growth. We have to unlearn what we learned, so we can open doors and pathways to new information that resonates with the mind, body and soul.
And, if any of these exercises over the past few months made you feel a little shitty…good. That means you dug deep enough to uncover the bullshit part of those beliefs. So feel it. Feel it for yourself. Feel it as if you were in another’s shoes. Feel it through to completion. Emote. Yell, cry, laugh/cry (that’s my favorite) scream, shadow box, go to a smash room… whatever you need to do but let yourself feel it. Because until you feel the full range of the emotion, it’s going to stay stuck, and you’ll never move forward.
So take a few breaths, release your guilt, judgment, blame and shame, feel through your emotions, and let them move on without attaching a story to it. The emotion will only last about 90 seconds, but what you attach to it can last a lifetime. Set your soul free… and BE.
With so much love,
Tarah
