Mother’s Day weekend is here! It’s nice to be appreciated, and ideally served a platter of pastries in bed, but lately, I’ve been feeling like treating myself, too. A little something to celebrate the not-so-small feat of adjusting to life with a toddler, to somehow getting it all done. My mom, Marylynn, agreed with this sentiment, so I asked her, what would you buy as a treat for yourself for Mother’s Day? Her answers, and mine, are below.
Your initials, or maybe the grandchildren’s, too , can grace this delicate necklace. You can pick the initials, but also the length and type of gold. For example, a 16-inch, 14k yellow gold necklace with two initials is $192 on Etsy.
Don’t let the name gross you out. The electric foot grinder, as this company is calling it, is really a rechargeable pedicure tool. It’s basically a pumice stone and file in one that works wonders on dry heels. Zaboul make one for $20, and you can find it and many others on Amazon.
These cosmetics and toiletries bags from Quince are a great size and a handsomely matched pair! Nice pebbled leather on the outside, water-resistant and wipeable on the inside.
Would you order yourself a cake? I would! This Southern style seven-layer cake by Caroline’s Cakes is pretty fabulous and the best part is, if you can’t decide between caramel and chocolate, you can get two cakes in one!
Most moms need a little help as they get older, especially under the eyes. This undereye corrector from DRMTLGY is a great product - blends easily, doesn’t cake, and covers nicely with a bit of luminosity to deflect from the bags raising children cause!
Sometimes a mom just has to get away. Books are a terrific escape, especially books with a lot of pictures that you don’t actually have to read if you don’t have the energy. An oldie (2018) but goodie is Charlotte Moss Entertains, a timeless tome of gorgeous and inspirational photos. But Moss has a ton of other great design books, any one of which will do the trick.
A cashmere travel wrap is the best thing ever. Wear it as a shawl or as a blanket on planes. You can roll it up and put it in your tote and it will still look great when you take it out. At White & Warren they come in a host of colors, but start with a neutral like black or taupe.
These are the best turtles ever (according to a major turtle lover!) from Phillips Chocolates, Boston’ oldest chocolatier that dates to 1925. With just one location, they will ship. And the special NEAQ 18 piece box of dark and milk turtles benefits the New England Aquarium sea turtle fund, which makes them guilt free!
Fresh flowers are great except for the fact that they don’t last long! But a lemon tree! Very pretty! You can’t plant it outside if you live anywhere with seasons, but you can enjoy it during the summer and bring it inside when it gets cold to keep that Mediterranean vibe going.

I can’t stop thinking about these flower petal votive holders from my friend from Chelsea Diehl Ceramics. I first saw them at my friend Jenn’s shop, Viand Mercantile in Portland, Maine and should’ve bought them then! They’re now on pre-order through Chelsea’s site so you can pick your favorite colors!
I’ve never been targeted by a product more on Instagram, and I’m finally going for it. The Golden Hour Recovery Cream by Ursa Major is supposed to deliver ‘hydration and soft glowing skin.’ The company is based in Vermont and for some reason that makes it even more appealing to me.
I’ve had the same set of assorted rainbow color steak knives since I first got my own place, and I think it’s time for an update. I love these Misen serrated steak knives, and while I should probably get something more neutral, like an olivewood or teak, this green is really speaking to me. (AND, they’re on sale!)
Now that I have open shelving in my kitchen, I’ve been thinking about adding more pops of color in my everyday dish collection. English cornishware, carried by Brooklyn-based Porta, is so classic and fun, and while they’re a bit of an investment for day to day dishes, I know I would get a ton of use out these.
My old faithful summer bag is looking a little tattered. I’m liking the darker brown shade of this bag from Sensei- it feels a little more elevated, and less strictly beachy - than the one I currently have.
I love to use tall candles for dinners outside, but a warm summer breeze, a taper candle, and a tablecloth is a formula for dried wax all over the place. These glass hurricanes from The Lost Kitchen solve that problem beautifully, and I know I’d use them inside in the wintertime, too!
Most of the time I buy basic clay pots from the nursery, but this Mother’s Day, I’m going to treat myself to an aged terracotta planter from Campo Di Fiori, a Berkshires based home and garden store. They make a $4.99 tray of impatiens look like a million bucks, and with care, they last a lifetime.
Sandals to go with my new bag! Again, I think the darker brown makes them really versatile -the kind of sandals I could wear to the beach or with a dress. I’ll always have a soft spot for a dressy sandal with a low or flat heel, and Loeffler Randall never lets me down in that category!
I just bought two of these Lisa Corti cushions for my screened-in porch, which Is getting a bit of a refresh this summer. Based in Rome, Lisa Corti has the most beautiful, vibrant fabrics and textiles that give any backyard or patio a hint of la dolce vita.
These are hands down my favorite under-eye patches, by Mario Badescu. They feel great on and really help with my puffy eyes in the morning. At just around 20 bucks for 30 pairs, they’re affordable, and I love that I don’t have to throw away individual packaging for each pair.
