goldfish crackers crushed into pocked sidewalks
petals sleepy trees forgot, carpeting submerged lawns
with the smell of leaves rioting for space in sticky dusk
you with reflections from parking lot puddles
bending your grin back over someone at the edges
of your dreams, glide through downed limbs, body aflame
as your shadow burns itself into the last light you’ll see
squinting from windows that glow across blacktop
long ago an almost forgotten sketch of circles
when pollen spins the dark you lose track of the sun
you carry every face of your ghosts out into the deep
you can almost see your shadow in that crack in the sky
in June when flowers are too raw to know where you are
