Since moving into our new home, I’ve been having so much fun picking out pieces to make it feel cozy, intentional and like our own! I also want to make it as non-toxic as possible!
When it comes to creating a healthier home, we often think about the products we clean with or the food we keep in our kitchen, but our furniture and decor matter too! Conventional furniture, rugs, bedding, towels and other home goods often contain synthetic fibers, flame retardants, formaldehyde and other chemical finishes that can contribute to indoor air pollution and add to what we’re exposed to in our homes.
Creating a healthier home doesn’t have to mean sacrificing style or comfort! I’ve found so many beautiful options that I’m excited to bring into our new home. Some of these pieces can be an investment, so I’ve included plenty of budget-friendly options too. You can also take your time and make swaps as your budget allows! From natural fiber rugs and less-toxic furniture to organic bedding and cozy decor, I’m sharing some of my favorite finds for creating a home that feels just as good as it looks.
Keep in mind that I have been making non-toxic swaps for 8 years now, so my year 8 will probably look different than your year 1, 2 or even 5! The point is to do the best you can and make swaps when you are thinking about bringing a new piece into your home. I never want to make anyone feel like they have to throw everything away and start from scratch because I certainly did not do that either! So just keep that in mind for this post especially.

Threshold Waffle Weave Shower Curtain: This is a great affordable option for a shower curtain! It’s made of 100% cotton and is OEKO-TEX certified.
Casaluna Linen Shower Curtain: This is another shower curtain option. It’s made out of a blend of cotton, linen and polyester (which isn’t ideal), but it is OEKO-TEX certified and is a budget-friendly option.
West Elm Shower Curtain Liner: Most vinyl shower curtain liners contain PVC, which can release chlorine, VOCs and other chemicals, but this one is PVC-free!
Dorai Concrete Soap Dispenser & Brush Holder Set: This bathroom accessory set is made from a hand-poured blend of natural cement and white sand and the soap dispenser features a stainless steel pump. It’s a beautiful way to reduce single-use plastics in your bathroom! I love that they also make an electric toothbrush holder out of quick-drying diatomaceous earth!
