Nineteen years ago today my life changed in the most wonderful ways when these two were let loose in the world.
After over a hundred rejections for literary representation and a bathtub full of tears, I received a call one after from Bill Reiss from John Hawkins Literary Agency who decided to take a chance on the story. It took a few months after that to find my excellent editor, Ellen Edwards at NAL/Penguin, and about a year later . . . voila!
Nobody, including me, expected the story to take off like it did, but thanks to indie bookstores, readers, book clubs, and libraries the word spread and the story ended up becoming a New York Times bestseller. (I will have this engraved on my headstone. No lie:)
