Here is what May looked like for me. This is my second monthly review, and I am hoping that I will be able to keep this structure up for the next few months at least.
I have spent quite a few hours this month trying to figure out what my artistic style is by using what I learned from last month’s activity into my won art. I’ve created several pieces, but the one I am most pleased with is that woman with white hair, repotting seedlings.
I have purchased one of Genevieve Godbout’s picture books , Apple Cake because I like the way she illustrates. I am in awe of her work. Its so delicate and so poetic.
I’ve stumbled across the substack of Valerie Parizeault and consequently followed her on instagram as well. If you are into illustrating children’s books and feel like you need some more advice, then give her a follow. I’m thoroughly enjoying reading her articles and seeing her carousels on instagram.
I’ve been battling a lot of brain fog lately, or at least that’s what I think it is. And I’ve been worried that it’s because I am not looking after my mental health enough. So I had consciously chosen to get involved into activities and go out more often.
I’ve therefore taken part in a pottery class, and a drawing class . And have been out and about almost every weekend of May just to recharge batteries and find outside source for clarity. And I have thoroughly enjoyed it.
I’ve managed to create a few illustrations that I am very pleased with. After the last few months of going nowhere, I feel like I finally have some direction with which I want to proceed. I have created a few ACEO’s and three square illustrations. One of which I want to redo.
I have also met Mary Poppins, or a woman dressed like her with the tapestry bag and the parrot umbrella.
I found some house martin egg shells on our balcony, and have enjoyed the visit of birds every day. Our puppy feels provoked but she got used to it.
Took my son to a Mayhem craft event at a gallery nearby and made a beautiful cherry tree paper tree look alike.
Found some beautiful flowers on my walk to the shops that were too pretty not to photograph.
Crossed paths with a rooster.
Saw a the remains of a shipwreck on a beach near our new home.
Had some company while I was focused on my drawings.
And finished the month with a crutches and a broken foot.
Needless to say, the next few months will be much slower since I am not allowed to move. I am going to have to find another way to look after my mental health.
