SF BOS 6/2/2026 SF Pretrial Targeted; Corporate Wealth Happily Forks Over $14.5 mil for Powell, Not People; DPW, Now With Drones; Future Babies To Be Born On Street?

Happy Post-Election Day! May people stop rabidly defending the wealthy elite and politicians, and go back to focusing on abolishing billionaires and stopping the American Imperialist Machine. I will say seeing the conservative technofascists win their measures and Supervisor seats sucks. I’m thankful to have survived being targeted by these Michael Shellenberger/Garry Tan/Billionaire foot soldiers during 2022-2025. I am chilled to see them winning supervisor seats and ballot measures. All I can say is don’t be discouraged. Continue spreading truth and knowledge. Continue speaking up. Continue fighting back. Out society and people’s lives depend on us.

The cop solution to hate crimes is this, a hate crime reward fund. Not that this is necessarily bad, but it won’t stop the hate. Just like how police don’t stop homelessness or school shooting. They’re a part of the problem. During the hearing Supervisor Dorsey had on SFPD’s Southern station staffing and slow response time to the TL and SoMa, a pro-police resident shared that they, a white gay man, had been a target of a hate crime and called SFPD. They eventually showed up and did nothing, not even try to investigate the crime. I know many LGBTQ+ people who do not report hate crimes because they know this will be the response and don’t want to be subject to further harm or harassment by cops.

Side note on the Southern station hearing, I made a public comment that you can see on IG here. One criticism I have about Mission Local’s article on this is despite multiple people saying more police isn’t the solution, or at least not the only solution, Supervisor Dorsey and Mission Local took away that we need more police. This is the final line in the article: “I think what we heard today underscores that police staffing is a top priority for me, as well as my constituents in District 6,” Dorsey said. “There’s more work to do.” I’ve seen ML do basically Copaganda with Dorsey on multiple articles now and it’s extremely frustrating to read.

We have $14 million moving from the San Francisco Downtown Developent Corporation (SFDDC) to the Department of Public Works for the Powell Street Improvement Project. SFDDC is “a private nonprofit group that aims to raise money from wealthy individuals to revitalize the city’s beleaguered central business district.” I wrote about SFDDC last year in The Mayor as CEO for the Phoenix Project:

Lurie’s Downtown Development Corp. board includes David Stiepleman, co-president of investment firm Sixth Street, Chris Larsen, chair of crypto firm Ripple, Bob Fisher, chair of the Gap Inc., Meg Whitman, former chief executive of HP and eBay, and now a director of Zipcar. Whitman, an unsuccessful GOP gubernatorial candidate in 2010, once sat on the board of Goldman Sachs when it was revealed that she had received shares in several of the firm’s public offerings. She resigned, but denied any wrongdoing. Larsen spent more than $1 million in the November 2024 election, alone, in an attempt to move the city rightward although none of that money went toward the Lurie campaign.

Corporate wealth will never focus on taking care of people.

I first learned of San Francisco Pretrial Diversion Project (SF Pretrail) last week during a Budget and Finance Committee meeting. I didn’t know that diversion in court cases was dependent on this group, though I have heard local conservatives/SF fascists complaining about diversion for years. SF Pretrail has a decade’s long relationship with SF Sheriffs, supporting people who are ensnared in the court system and offering services such as helping unhoused and troubled people meet their court dates so as to avoid making their situation worse. Another important goal of SF Pretrial is this:

“While the presumption if innocence is a cornerstone of our legal system, people awaiting trial have historically been jailed at disproportionately high rates without recourse. Our services alleviate this injustice, as San Francisco judges can release recently arrested people with assurances that our programs are geared towards public safety and client accountability.”

However, it seems the conservative agenda may finally be getting their way because this relationship between SF Pretrail and SF Sheriffs is ending. This is by request of California’s Superior Court, according to Supervisor Matt Dorsey, although it also seems to be a result of mayor Lurie’s budget massacre. During last week’s budget meeting Supervisor Dorsey didn’t share any details about why the court wants to end SF Pretrail’s role in our judicial system. He vaguely said the court has “issues” with SF Pretrial and it was the Board’s duty to heed what they request, basically.

Dozens of people gave public comment in support of SF Pretrial, some personally testifying to the positive impact their services have had on their life. One elder Black man gave a deeply moving yet heartbreaking, 30 second comment:

My name was 4762090 for 40 years. San Francisco Pretrial’s given my name back which is Ronald Clark and I’d like to keep it and I’d like to keep them and I’d like for you to fund them completely so that I can keep my name, so I don’t have to go back to that number ever again. Thank you.

Gasps followed by cheering and clapping filled the chamber. Despite all that, the role of SF Pretrail is being transferred to an tool of law enforcement, San Francisco Adult Probation Department (APD). Concern was raised about people needing pretrial services not being able to be open and honest if the services are provided by law enforcement, and not an org separate from law enforcement, as well as all of SF Pretrial’s expertise and relationships with clients ending. SF Pretrail’s contract will foreseeably be canceled once the transfer is complete. APD was supposed to be begin services next month but they’re already behind.

The BOS voted to approve the first year of the SF Pretrail contract. Word from City Attorney is the BOS can cancel the contract without repercussions, again, once the transfer is complete.

Yesterday Dorsey shared extra details that the California Superior court is concerned with the financial stability of SF Pretrial, as well as bring San Francisco into alignment with other counties regarding pretrial services. So the courts or the mayor or both no longer want San Francisco to be a leader in justice, nor in social justice. San Francisco must fall back in step with the laggers.

These conservative, regressive, harmful moves that San Francisco government has been doing has been heart-wrenching to watch. The renewed War on Drugs. The abandonment of Harm Reduction. The condemnation of Housing First. And now this.

From three days to 14. Why was a 3 day eviction ever allowed? Why does a 14 day eviction notice still sound horrible?

Another concerning budget cut made itself known when nurses took to public comment. This is yet another area I’m unfamiliar with but from what I heard, it sounds like there are unnecessary budget cuts being made that will negatively impact mothers and youth. One nurse said babies will start being born in the streets again if this cut is made. There also sounds like there is internal strife already present. Here is the first of several comments made on the matter, taken from the transcript:

My name is Mark Leach. These are my teamsters, your nurse managers.

I’m here in front of you today as a last resort has made a decision to reassign nursing leadership.

We called for the typical meet and confer and attempted to convince [them] that they were making a mistake. Those meetings have proved pointless. The city, the civil services process is broken and nobody in leadership has shown any willingness to modify the decision that’s been made.

[M.C.A.H.] That stands for Maternal Child Adolescent Health. Nearly 100 years of serving San Francisco’s mothers and babies with a team of [M.C.A.H.] and coordinated CBOs. Dr. Zell Miller was a city employee at mci [M.C.A.H.?]. Briefly she left to run her own CBO. That CBO relies on the city and mci for funding just like the dozen or so other CBOs doing the same exact work. They all care about improving outcomes for mothers and babies.

Dr. Malala has made a full time job of undermining the leadership at my age. She filed relentless information requests, cherry picked data and presented to the mayor’s office the health commission and select members of this board. Her efforts are now being rewarded as the EPA has decided to reassign over 40 years of leadership in this practice area to completely unrelated areas elsewhere in some of the top nursing leaders in msk [M.C.A.H.?]. It started out as clients of these programs. They raised children while pursuing their nursing careers. They are now highly educated black and Latina women with master’s degrees. They are living role models for their clients.

And as hard as it may be to hear, there has been a failure in leadership. A CBO receiving city funding maligns your workforce and your leadership never talks to the employees. They ignore the concerns and reassign them to unrelated nursing roles. The opinions and manipulated stats were taken at face value and permanent peaks. Nursing employees are now being reassigned under the guise of budget savings. This decision is a waste of talent and a waste of money. We are asking for respect.

We are asking each of you for a conversation. We are asking to be on the Board of supervisor committee at the health commission agendas.

And finally my post-elections public comment [1:38:50] Supervisor Dorsey coincidentally (or not) began coughing during my public comment and stopped when I was done. You can hear him coughing loudly the couple times my mic picked it up. Yesterday mayor Daniel Lurie’s Deputy Press Secretary Kate Poltrack checked out my IG stories so maybe they heard my comment too.

With what I saw during this election cycle I hope the modern day plantation owners / CEO’s / billionaires do not succeed in aiming your rage against your neighbors and we instead keep it directed at those that are enacting and funding State violence because there is no one in the U.S. Government who has clean hands when it comes to supporting domestic State violence against our most vulnerable such as the disabled, homeless and imprisoned. We cannot excuse nor defy any S.S. Government representative.

And here is a short list of some atrocities America and the American government is currently committing.

The U.S. Government is still trying to subjugate Mexico and South America currently starving Cuba, trying to use Kenya as a quarantine zone for Americans infected with Ebola. Supplying arms for Israel’s genocide against Palestine. Slaughtering people in Iran and in the Caribbean, exploiting so many African countries for our cell phones and stripping voting protections from Black Americans and ultimately all Americans.

I mean let’s hope we can continue voting right?

America is in full swing and torturing people and concentration camps and prisons.

America is pushing rabid misogyny, racism, homophobia, transphobia, transphobia especially via, you know, these A.I. Bots and social media and all the bots that flood social media posts.

America is also partaking greatly in destroying our only habitat we humans have, the Earth, with all these data centers that were referenced earlier.

All in the name of profit and power.
