The glow of a screen.
The buzz of a phone.
The unread email waiting in my inbox.
Another event on my calendar.
The return sitting in my car’s trunk.
The appointment I still need to schedule.
My mind moves from one task to the next. Then another.
Another day. Another week. Another month slips quietly by.
Time escapes my grasp.
I sometimes wonder…
Is this the only way?
When will it slow down?
When will I be present in my own life?
To sit with coffee, surrounded by birdsong.
To read slowly. To give thanks.
To pray. To breathe. To feel content.
Through Sabbath, God invites me.
He asks me…
Will you receive this gift, this sacred rhythm?
A day that teaches us to rest, to reflect, to worship, to play.
A day for joy, for delight, for savoring.
A gift, priceless among all things.
It is mine, available, if I choose it.
A holy glimpse of eternity.
Will I open my hands and receive it?
