Happy May everyone I hope flowers and plants are in bloom where ever you are and you can hear nature singing. My favorite part about this time of year is digging in the dirt and preparing the yard for spring. We leave our dandelions out for the bees, and the flowers for clover show up. The yard is buzzing with bees, hopping with bunnies, and filled with my curses as nature eats my garden and I’m putting up fencing to stop the monsters like a tower defense game.
Signed Title Pages for the hardback edition of The Sunset Sovereign: A Dragon’s Memoir have been signed and are making their way to the UK! The pre-order link will be coming soon. I uploaded a video of me signing all 100 pages on Instagram, to prove I signed and touched each one. Plus a special news annoucement.
The hardback has new art in it. It’s gorgeous.
Okay, if you don’t want to watch the video, here is the news (next section)
I’ve finished outlining the next standalone set in The Sunset Sovereign’s world. This will be a challenging book to me and I’m excited to write it. Since you are all on my newsletter, you will get automatic access to the “bonus” scenes and story that won’t make into the final content. Yes I’m already cutting scenes before writing it. There is a method to my madness, and you will see the clean final version of these stories. Trust me like you trusted Gandalf about going on an adventure. I’m still playing around with the title, tag line, and blurb.
Web Serial update for Honey I’ve Leveled the Kids has hit over 400 pages published. I’m almost done with this round of edits. I plan on going back and changing the first 9 chapters to make it faster and stronger, and a bit more relatable and likable character. Only 30k words left on this edits, the book will be near 190k-200k word count (thank goodness its a serial). I hope to finish the rewrite by end of June so I can work on other projects I’m excited about. Outlining has been fun in both the fantasy and science fiction realm.
I will be attending a few cons this summer. The first will be the Newark Book Fest on May 17th. This will be my first con and I am extremely nervous and excited to try cons out as an author. This is a free event.
Next will be The Big Ohio Book Con June 28th-29th. You will need to buy tickets for this event. Mai Corland, John Scalzi, and many other big name authors will be there!
I will also be in the Columbus Book Festival! I went to this last year as a reader with my kids and we all had a blast.
Alright, I will be honest, my reading lately has been turn on my phone to read on the kindle or kobo app - and fall instantly asleep. Not even horror can keep me awake for a page. Life’s been a bit busy and I’ve been doom scrolling instead of joy reading more than I should. Edit mode usually kills my joy of reading as I can’t turn off the editing brain. That’s why I’m even more excited to finish my web serial edits to get back to joy reading.
Some webseries on Royal Road I’ve been “Studying” lately that are top notch:
Runeblade by Bacon Macleod. This was recommended to me for its fight scenes and how it starts its system building.
Strength Based Wizard by RMCollinwood. The pacing of this story is great. It does a good balance of Loki chaos and we watch the fall out of hat from the MC point of view.
Do you have any recommendations on what I should read? Are you going to any cons?
