High Summer at Grove Farm

Night after balmy night we have sat out in the garden watching the sun slowly setting and casting a golden light over the swaying tips of the long meadow grass and lengthening the misshapen shadows of the fruit trees. The boughs of the plum and fig trees are already beginning to hang heavy with fruit and little green crab apples cluster for space on their spindly branches.

It’s at this time of day that nature comes alive. Swallows and swifts swoop above our heads and butterflies catch the evening sun on their wings as they move from flower to flower. And it is as the sun goes down that our Lavender Pekins seem to get a new lease of life and peck and cluck about sociably while taking a contented dust bath - one silly one takes up residence as a lookout bird, perching precariously on the handle of our garden fork.

I’m sure she pretends to be more comfortable up there than she really is.

I think we’ll look back on this long long summer as if we’ve dreamt it. The evenings in particular feel like a gift. The heat of the day has occasionally been too much, even for us sun worshippers. We rather wish Grove Farm had a natural swimming pool or even a little stream to cool the toes off. But alas our only regular cool off option is to jump into the shower many times a day.

Our Anemone Body Wash is being swiftly used up, especially as our daughter, Lily, likes to slather on half a bottle per shower. We love how refreshing and uplifting the Anemone fragrance is and customers have been coming back again and again to this product in particular, so we think we’re all getting through it fast this summer.

Last night, while collecting our courgettes and tomatoes from the vegetable garden, we noticed a couple of tight little white buds appearing on our Japanese anemones. They are earlier than expected, but the warm summer explains this. Soon they will burst into bloom.

We can’t wait to see these late summer beauties dancing in the garden well into the autumn. It was - when we first moved to Grove Farm – their delightfully, unexpected and plentiful appearance that sparked the inspiration for our Anemone Collection. We hope you enjoy them and the fragrance as much as we do.

with love,
