LaShawn · Letters From LaShawn

I’m feeling the itch to run again.

It was at mile 8 during my half marathon last October, that my knees and I determined that we never wanted to run any kind of race ever again.

I came home and for the next 8 months, limped through life with a knee that said: NEVA AGAIN.

And before you say..surely LaShawn, you will run again let me fill you in on a few fun facts:

My left knee never stops hurting.

The pain is so constant that I barely notice it anymore.

On a rainy day, sometimes the pain makes me see colors.

It’s bone on bone in there according to the x ray from my orthopedist who looked at me like I was absolutely crazy when I suggested running another race. Just a tiny tiny 10k….

It HAS gotten better. I’ve been building up the muscles around it all year.

But short of getting a new knee ( and i’m too young for that shit) , running is not in my immediate future…..supposedly. (it wasn’t when I ran the marathon either but here we are).

I mean…that would be the smart thing right??

RIGHT????

The smart thing to do would be to just stick to the bike.

And stick to walking.

Stick to strength training.

OR…I could do maybe a 10k..a 5k…a flat course somewhere….

These are the things I marinate on at 5 am on a Monday. Wanting to run, but shouldn’t or can’t…but probably will?

I’m sure there is a metaphor in there somewhere.

This was a stream of consciousness post. You simply write, no edits to grammar thoughts etc. I used to do these on my blog back in the day every Sunday.

This list may include paid/affiliate links. Meaning, if you click on a link and buy something, I may get enough to buy a Vanilla Chair with oatmilk on Friday. A small one…

  • I miss salads. SO much so, I’m about to risk it all and just go for it. In the meantime, I’m drooling over these Ceasar Salad Recipes from Famous Chefs.

  • I am not ready to see Halloween decorations yet BUT THIS CUTE HALLOWEEN MUG is about to have me putting my prejudices aside. And it’s on sale.

  • Did you hear about that no influencer sign in nantucket? I have seen many a think piece on it, including this one from Gabrielle Blair of Alt Summit. Its behind a paywall, but you can sign up for a free trial if you want to read it.

  • You know that “Worth it” trend on social media? My addition: the Le Creuset Braiser pan. I used this pan about 2-3 times a week because you can cook any and every thing in it. I fry chicken in it, I smother chicken in it, I cook spaghetti in it and I’ve fried burgers in it. Its an all around pan and one of the best kitchen investments I’ve ever made.

  • I’m always amazed when people have created acronyms for something I’ve been doing for years. But just in case you need a calmer workday morning, Check out the P.A.U.S.E. Method.

Ok friends, that is all for today, It’s time to do Pilates and then I’m going for an actual walk around my neighborhood. One loop is a mile. I might add a weighted vest for a little razzle dazzle.
