An apple is an ideal subject to paint, whether you’re a beginner or an experienced artist. It’s a wonderful subject for practising how to depict light and various painting techniques, as the shapes are relatively simple.
After all, an apple is really just a circle. And those little leaves are actually teardrop-shaped. And that ‘apple’ circle doesn’t even have to be perfectly round, because an apple isn’t either. What a wonderfully forgiving, juicy little treat.
I painted this apple during a demonstration for my students in a class in my hometown, and I’ve photographed the different steps for you.
