Lark Maitland · Lark Maitland's Secret Library

Darling,

I wrote a Regency-era romance novel set in a natural sciences museum. (A butterfly vivarium also figures in, not un-steamily.) Let me tell you about it. . . and invite you to join the Advance Reader team, so you can enjoy it early!

🦋Romance with a cipher mystery twist.

🦋🦋Out November 22nd on Kindle and in paperback.

🦋🦋🦋Available for preorder here!

When scientist (and alleged arrogant, curly-haired demon) Luke Ashburton arrives to open a museum with his mentor, the Earl of Bexley, he is stunned to discover the building on fire. The Earl is dead.

Luke’s new mission: salvage the exhibition. As the earl would have wished.

Just one problem: the late earl’s crucial field journals were written entirely in code.

Enter Grace Chetwood, a sparkling, oft underestimated whirlwind. (She was introduced in The Duke’s Bride Vanishes, but you don’t need to read it first—this is a standalone novel. Just, know it’s there, if you need a little treat later.)

Under her frivolous exterior—in an early scene, we find her wearing a “translucent pink confusion of a gown”—Grace is a brilliant mathematician. She corresponded with the earl for years, always in code. Now, she’s the one person who may be able to crack the cipher he left behind.

Off Grace goes to the museum. What’s the problem, you ask?

Grace and Luke are acquainted.

They met at a ball years ago. The encounter began with attraction... and ended with vicious words and a slap to the face. (Grace did the slapping.)

Enemies. In close quarters. Working around the clock. And, despite ardently wishing to throw one another into the sea… that spark simply refuses to diminish….

Here’s a bit of their vibe, for the banter-curious:

He does generously volunteer to help with that pesky tension, eventually. As any gentleman would.

If you enjoy sharp dialogue, brilliant minds, deep feelings, naughty happenings in libraries (sssssh), tipsy stargazing, STEM characters, redhead representation, extremely tall men, butterflies, mysteries, and multi-layered secrets…

Follow this link to join my ARC team.

And do please order the book! I think you’ll enjoy it.

LMxx
