The Psychotic Monster Who Murdered Charlie Kirk

Yesterday I found myself crying for Charlie, and for all the people in that crowd who had to watch that horror.

This isn’t about me, I promise. It’s about the non-existent “they” that apparently must be stopped.

I just mention it because I don’t cry much, but that’s just how awful it was. And because of my proximity, texts were rolling in all day from friends across the country, expressing shock and dismay, almost all from the dreaded liberal white women, all in tears. Because that’s a perfectly normal reaction to have, when a young man is brutally murdered by a psychotic killer, and it’s captured live on video for all to see.

Though according to X and some on Substack, that’s not what people were doing at all, they were popping champagne and high-fiving each other, so not it’s time to go to war with “them”.

The most obvious thing that can be said is that shooting a civilian – someone you’ve never even met, who has no personal connection to you – with a high-powered rifle, in a crowd of 3,000 other innocent civilians, on a beautiful September afternoon, and causing him to instantly bleed out and die, is the act of a psychotic person filled with evil.

It does not matter who that person was. There is literally no situation in which doing something like this is not the act of a profoundly deranged person full of evil intent. It’s a horror. It’s not something anyone with any shred of humanity or sanity would do. A tragedy for the person that was just slaughtered, and for their friends and family, and for every person in the audience who had to witness it, and for everyone else in our society of 350 million who has to live with knowing that such monsters walk among us.

The reason I am stating such obvious things is because so many people seem to have already lost sight of it.

Instead, they’re driven to distraction, thinking about how much they hate those evil people, how “they’ve” gone too far, how they’re ready for war against “them,” how “they” deserve it, how “they’re” celebrating, how “they” can’t be allowed to get away with this! Find the videos, watch them over and over, suck them down, let your blood boil, bang the drums, go to war, round up the troops.

To remind you: there is no they. There is a guy.

Apparently, a skinny young white guy with a rifle down his pants. Who our law enforcement have no godly clue who he is. If the FBI knew who he was, they wouldn’t still be desperately asking for help, asking for anyone who can identify him based one grainy video in a stairwell, more than 24 hours later. No one knows where the shooter is from, how old he is, what his name is, who his family is, where he learned to shoot. No one knows a damn thing about him, other than that he wanted to slaughter someone, and so he did, because he could.

I have no particular feelings about Charlie Kirk as an individual or influencer or pundit. I barely know anything about him, which is the case with probably 70% of our fellow citizens, who I would warrant have never heard of him before yesterday. I’ve seen him on Real Time once, I’d seen a few clips of his arguments, and I know who he was, but he occupies no space in my mind, normally. I very much did not like some things I’ve heard him say, and I agreed with others. Which by the way, applies to literally every other human on the planet. My opinion on Charlie Kirk, or Charlie Kirk’s opinions, is of course entirely irrelevant. Because he was 31 years old, and trying to speak his thoughts in good faith open debate, and he was slaughtered by a psychotic person.

Some people have wondered why they’re so emotionally affected by this, when they never cared much about Charlie, and deranged people shoot people every day in the US. Three high school students shot yesterday in the state next door, by what appears to be a doe-eyed and angelic looking teenaged boy. Several people killed today, by a madman at the Naval Academy. How can you bother caring, when none of us have any choice but to harden our hearts, and stop caring, or we’d be crying every day?

At least if you’re on Substack, I’d suggest it’s because you care about ideas, and debate, and disagreeing with each other without murder. And it’s obvious that regardless of whether you disagreed with everything Charlie ever said, that’s all he was trying to do.

Engage, discuss, persuade, in good faith. The best of what we’re supposed to be about, our ideals and the first amendment and all that good stuff. But a psychotic person with a lust for blood made sure that didn’t happen, and wanted to feel the power of taking someone’s life, and causing everyone to run in fear. And that is terribly sad and you SHOULD be upset by it. How can we stand it, knowing these monsters exist?

But if your primary reaction to this is immediately go into political fury and desire to lock up or go to war with millions of people – before anyone even knows who did this, and the one thing that is clear is that there is ONE PERSON who committed this murder -- there is something very dark and animalistic within you yourself. WITHIN YOU.

I hope when your blood stops boiling, you can look at it. Why is it that you’re almost waiting for an excuse? Hoping for it, really. Why does it feel good to you? Why do you WANT this murderer to be someone you can blame on a whole group? Does it bother you that you are so easily pushed into rage and hatred? Or does it feel good, do you like the righteous fury? The bloodlust? Do you not care, you want someone to pay? Do you want catharsis? Do you want to show them? Make them suffer? Make them scared?

Whoever “them” is.

There are some videos of random people from Tik Tok indicating they don’t really give a shit when someone who promotes zero limits on access to weapons of murder end up getting murdered by one themselves. That’s callous, and gross, and they should keep that thought to themselves, especially when someone just had their blood spilled like that. I think they were wrong. But that’s about all I saw most of them saying, and none of them were anyone – not leaders, not famous people, not representatives of anything, just random people. But the people who feel the need to find those videos, amplify them, spread them around, and make them seem normal, even make them feel like a threat, so they can bang the drum and feed the beast and get the blood pumping? You’re worse. You’re actively fomenting. You’re bloodthirsty.

There are a lot more videos – at least on X – of people calling for war, calling for pogroms, calling for throwing people in jail (?!?), calling for random people that they have zero idea have any involvement, and have so far been blatantly wrong, are gone after by mobs. A man who is an infamous pundit, who I have some work relation to and who I literally have work-related emails with from just last week, basically said it was time for martial law and rounding up liberals for gulags. This guy is perfectly nice in his business relations, and I wonder if he would say this to me on a phone call, or if he just can’t help letting his primitive reptile come out, seeing another infamous pundit murdered like that.

Rabid maniac Laura Loomer, who two weeks ago was calling Charlie Kirk a charlatan and stoking the mob to eject him from the GOP, has spent the last 24 hours sending bloodthirsty maniacs on X after random civilians with zero care whether or not her information was entirely bad (it was), and promoting AI-created fantasies of what the shooter’s face might look like, if anyone actually knew, which they don’t.

And the theories. It’s antifa. It’s Israel. It’s Trump, trying to distract from the Epstein files. It’s the Groypers. It’s a trans paramilitary radical. It’s the leftist, with school teachers and blue-haired teenaged girls cheering them on. It’s an op. It’s a false flag. It’s definitely a professional, to be able to make that shot. But also, it’s obviously an amateur, to miss his head when shooting so close. Any hunter with more than a few days of training could make that shot. It’s a military-trained sniper. It was a team. It was a lone wolf. Kirk’s body guards were giving secret signals. Someone published a book about his death the day before. He etched trans messages on his casings. No, he didn’t. He escaped by plane. He’s still hiding in someone’s garage. He’s actually a woman.

What’s the motive? Well, he was a conservative guy putting on an event trying to spread a right-wing message, OBVIOUSLY it was a leftist, right? Except if it was a white nationalist mad that Kirk wasn’t sufficiently racist. Or a false flag. Or Israel trying to prevent the Epstein files from being released.

People: THERE IS NO MOTIVE. It’s a psychotic, evil young man who knows how to use a rifle and wants to know what it feels like to use it on a human. We allow psychotic, evil people to own rifles in this country, so of course they will.

How can you think there’s a “motive”??? There is not a rational reason for committing an act like this. How many goddamn times does this have to be proven to you?

• The psychotic lone loser in Pennsylvania, who thought about murdering a bunch of other public figures across the political spectrum, and then opportunistically took the chance to try with Trump.

• The other psychotic lone loser in Florida, who didn’t get quite as close, who wrote a whole book of his deranged thoughts, none of which make any sense, and who was on trial today, and opened up with 15 minutes of incoherent rambling.

• The psychotic old man who murdered 60 people in Las Vegas before killing himself, because he wanted to know what it was like to take lives and play god, before going out himself.

• The trans kid that murdered children this summer, who wrote a detailed apology to his family, telling them he was sick in the head and it wasn’t their fault, but he just had to kill those kids, he couldn’t stop thinking about murder, he had to do it, he knew he was wrong but he was obsessed and had to do it anyway.

• All the other school shooters, who find themselves obsessed with Adam Lanza, with no particular politics, they just have a voice telling them they need to kill.

There is no such thing as a sane person who is thinking thoughts with any coherence whatsoever, that has at the end of those thoughts “and then I open up a stranger’s throat and bleed them out while they sit on stage having a civil conversation with 3,000 other people.”

Why would you think there is? And how infected with brain worms are you yourself, that you think there’s going to be a coherent explanation or motive here? There will not be. If they ever find this guy – AND THEY NEED TO FIND HIM – don’t expect anything that makes sense. Don’t expect it will resolve which team he was on, or end the endless arguments about whose fault it is.

Here’s what you can be sure of: he was obsessed with killing someone. He wanted to know what it felt like. He wanted to feel the “power” of taking a life. He wanted people to be afraid. He had a cold, detached, yet obsessive and psychotic desire to murder. We could not stop thinking about killing. He liked the feeling of no one knowing what he was doing, of being able to stop him. Of making them suffer. He fantasized about that part, a lot. The suffering. He couldn’t stop thinking about it.

That you can bet on, but you don’t know a goddamn thing other than that, and stop acting like you do. I’m listening to the press release right now as I type, and it’s clear they have no clue who this guy is.

Our good governor Spencer Cox, who I DO know quite a bit about and he is a good man and a good leader – is begging you maniacs to stop. He just said there are a massive number of Chinese and Russian bots online, purposely trying to rile people up, get the drums banging. Please listen to him, and if you’re one of the people with boiling blood, go take an ice bath.

There were thousands of people, without brain worms, at vigils for Charlie in Utah today. Praying, crying, wishing for the killer to be caught and brought to justice. Liberals and conservatives. The only people who aren’t doing that are people online who are thirsting, excited even, fantasizing about a civil war popping off. If that’s you, I hope you stop.

This murderer is psychotic and evil, and needs to be caught and brought to justice. We have a rare opportunity here to actually do that, because unlike most shooters, he didn’t immediately kill himself.

But things don’t work like on TV, where we actually have sophisticated surveillance and technology. More like the keystone cops. Palantir apparently isn’t all-powerful. The deep state apparently isn’t that powerful. In fact, right now it’s totally clueless, and some skinny psychotic man who committed profound evil is still out there.

Those people are scary, but thankfully they are also quite rare. The far greater numbers of those of you who are so quick to revert immediately towards your basest instincts of tribalism, and to turn other humans into a great mass called “them” to be dehumanized and damned, are far scarier to me. Every time some triggering event happens (YES, on either side), I’m newly dismayed to be reminded just how thin the veneer of civilization is, and how easily so many people are provoked into their most animalistic versions.

Rest in peace, Charlie Kirk, and godspeed to the authorities finding and capturing this monster alive.

UPDATE 9/12/25: Well, we now know who the killer is, and I hate to say I told you so….but, yes indeed looks like an alienated violent young man who had no reason to do this, and all of Twitter is busy arguing whether he was “radicalized” by the left or the right, when once again, there is no evidence of either. But ample evidence he was simply an overly smart kid who chose to waste his intelligence by spending all his time playing video games and on Discord servers and 4Chan.

He inscribed old 4Chan memes that his video game community used, and everyone’s busy trying to interpret them for meaning that is not there (music from his video game, a satire of furries, a statement that anyone reading it was gay, and another reference to dropping bombs and “catch this fascist” - just a bunch of incoherent crap and I’m sorry, but these are MEMES FROM DISCORD CHATS ABOUT VIDEO GAMES. The “motive” here is brainworms.

And the level of cope that is going on…people just need so badly for this to live up to a grand narrative that emotionally satisfies them. Wait, he was from a super conservative nice family and learned shooting and was familiar with guns because of his dad?? Well, obviously he was radicalized in college!! Except for the part where after receiving a full-ride scholarship and an ACT score in the top 1%, he dropped out in his very first semester. He wasn’t in college. Instead he’s spent four years on Discord, and attending a technical program to become an electrician (but not trying very hard, obviously). This guy fits the profile of all the others. Smart but not using his intelligence, spending all his time online and in Discord, no social life, and warped in the head. Practically the twin of the guy who tried to assassinate Trump.

I realize it may not satisfy your need for there to be overarching grand stories of good and evil in the world, and scary to think that things can be so arbitrary, or that someone could do something so horrific just because his brain got twisted from spending four years straight sitting in a chair playing video games and on Discord, rather than interacting with the world. But that indeed appears to be the case (not that anyone dedicated to a narrative will pay attention to facts). If you want an enemy, perhaps look at how technology is taking smart young men who had every resource in the world available to them, and twisting them into this sort of monster.
