Kristie Cook · Kristie Cook's Magical Meanderings & Musings

It’s July already. Not just July, but the middle of July. How two months has gone by since I last wrote, I can’t explain. Although I do know a lot has happened since then—more plot twists in this life of mine.

At that time, I’d written about scaling back on this newsletter and Substack because I had so many irons in the fire and I couldn’t yet give this space the attention and energy I want to give it, that you deserve. Then as I said in that post: life happens. Or as one reader commented, life is a roller-coaster with all its ups-and-downs and loop-de-loops.

There were a couple of new businesses I was working on creating with someone near-and-dear to me. But in June, her life did one of those loop-de-loops and went topsy-turvy. What we’d been planning and working on together since January were no longer viable possibilities. It’s all good—her life flipped in a very good way (if you know, you know), and I’ve been walking along her side through the twists and turns: 3- and 5-hour road trips even on the same day, medical exams and procedures, sleeping in hospital waiting rooms, and middle of the night sobbing…often by several of us at once. Because our relationship, a soul-level bond that we each deeply know spans multiple lifetimes, is much more important than any business venture. I am incredibly grateful to be a part of her and her family’s lives, and I can only respect and support her need to make them a top priority and her full-time (and then some) job right now.

Babies! So many babies! 2 of the 4 shown here. The other 2 are probably in the kitchen with Mom/Grandma, begging for a snack or drinks.

Also in June, a coaching certification coarse I’d been taking since last Fall culminated in a life-changing retreat in Sedona. I experienced an in-person somatic breathwork ceremony, allowing for a huge release of old baggage—beliefs, patterns, attachments—I’d been carrying for way too long, creating more space for what I’m meant to be doing. I stepped further into my power as a sovereign being while claiming my gifts in service to others. I am better equipped with wisdom and tools to guide others through life-changing transformations so they, too, can live their purpose and passion and make the impact they’re meant to make. I met more of my soul family, connecting in ways that don’t seem possible so effortlessly and quickly—because, again, we’d known each other beyond this physical life. They inspire me as we each walk our paths individually but knowing we’re just a call or text away.

Sedona! I love this place. There is literally a different energy here. And I love these people.

Then June ended with an injury that literally took me off my feet. There’s no exciting, adventurous story here. I simply stepped out of my van wrong, rolled my ankle, and went to the ground (and I know I’m old because there was no laughing like they do when you’re young and fall, only people running to ask if I was okay, lol). Fortunately, I didn’t break anything, only sprained an ankle. But unfortunately, if you’ve been reading my posts lately, you know I’ve been DoorDashing for a good chunk of my income these days. So being told to “stay completely off that foot for at least a week,” especially after taking time off for all of the above adventures, kind of made my heart stop for a moment. “What am I going to do? How will I pay July’s bills?”

Well, the last intention I set at that retreat on the final night as we sat under the stars at Bell Rock, one of Sedona’s energy vortexes, was to trust more. Trust in myself. Trust in the Divine. Trust that everything always works out. And one of my earliest lessons on my healing and spiritual awakening journey is that things don’t happen to us—they happen for us.

Applying that change in perspective and mindset, I examined all of these events, so much in a short period of time, individually and as a sequence, and I saw what was happening for me. I was clearly being directed to focus on what’s important, what’s real, what’s meant for me, my purpose, my passion, my peace. In fact, Spirit has been directing me this way for over a year, with slight hints at first, then some gentle nudges, and now some very blatant boundaries. Almost like Spirit, my Higher Self, Soul, whatever was shaking the shit out of me in June and saying, “Do you get it now? This is the time. Stop fucking around.”

So here I am, two months after writing about scaling back, with a renewed commitment to this space, my stories, my writing, and you, my readers. I’m working on a new plan and a posting schedule for this newsletter and also for The Writers Cauldron. Writing, publishing, and serving creatives are coming together beautifully as my primary business focus. I’ve said it before then allowed myself to be distracted with the next Shiny New Thing, but I see the pattern, and I’m breaking it faster than ever. I’m truly focused and devoted now, because this is my purpose, my passion, and how I want to make a difference in this world.

As if to confirm that I finally get it, just yesterday I experienced a huge breakthrough in the story I’ve been working on. I’d been stuck on a pretty important foundational piece that I couldn’t get beyond, no matter how hard I forced it. Then bam! Out of nowhere, the answer came—inspired by music, as is often the case. This was a nice reminder of how clearing space allows life and energy to flow, including creative energy. I’ll be talking more about creative flow a bit here and a lot over on The Writers Cauldron.

In the meantime, I’m off my feet as much as possible as the ankle still hasn’t healed, hobbling my way around when I have to, and devoting as much time and energy I have to make writing, publishing, editing, and coaching a significant and sustainable income again.

I don’t have stories ready to publish here yet, so I haven’t activated the paid subscription function on Substack. If you’d like to show your support, though, you can pledge to become a paid subscriber so I know there’s interest. You aren’t charged anything at this time, and you will be asked to confirm when the time comes. Just your pledge, though, knowing there are still people who want to read my stories, is a huge motivator for me to get them out of draft mode and ready to publish.

If you’re not ready or able to commit to a paid subscription but would still like to show your interest, maybe you can Buy Me a Coffee. Coffee and chocolate make the words happen, and so does your support.

Of course, reading your comments and knowing you’re still here with me goes a long way, too. I am so grateful for your eyeballs on my words, your time, and your words, your experiences, your voice. Please don’t hesitate to drop a comment or hit reply. If you don’t know what to say, here are some prompts:

  • What’s something you want to recommit to?

  • What are you devoted to? Is it aligned with who you really are?

  • What is your biggest passion? Are you living it?

  • How do you like to creatively express yourself?

Thank you so much, again, for being here. I’m so excited to be on this journey with you, and I can’t wait to see where it takes us. (Hint: New and not-so-new worlds are stops along the way.)
