Embrace your inner power by pursuing ideas that send shivers down your spine and twist your stomach into knots. However, recognize that not all ideas come without consequences or challenges.

Remember the notorious Gap logo change in 2012? The brand aimed for a sleeker, modern design but encountered an overwhelming backlash from its customers, leading them to abandon the project. Similarly, JCP's "Ship It" TV ad tried to mirror Old Spice's humor and absurdity but ultimately faced criticism. Another example is the Bud Light campaign, which faced significant backlash due to its controversial content, putting the brand in a precarious position with its traditional audience.

Here are a few more incidents that could warrant further exploration:

  • Pepsi's Kendall Jenner Ad (2017)

  • Tropicana's Packaging Redesign (2009)

  • Airbnb's Logo Redesign (2014)

  • Coca-Cola's "Share a Coke" campaign in Russia (2016)

  • H&M's "Coolest Monkey in the Jungle" Ad (2018)

  • Dove's Body Wash Ad (2017)

  • Starbucks' "Race Together" Campaign (2015)

  • Heineken's "Lighter is Better" Ad (2018)

  • Mastercard's World Cup Campaign (2018)

  • Gucci's "Blackface" Sweater (2019)

In pursuing innovation, remember that not everything will go as planned, which is perfectly okay. As long as you've conducted thorough research and are prepared to take (calculated) risks. Embrace the outcome, knowing that you dared to take a shot. Be agile in adapting, pivoting, or changing when needed, but never lose the willingness to seize opportunities.

As you navigate your career, always remember that there will be critics. Those who heavily scrutinize the risks you take, those who jump on the bandwagon, and finally those who don't care. Focus on learning from each experience and continue to grow, understanding that the accurate measure of success lies in pursuing your ideas and being bold enough to take chances.
