How to Make Summer Outfits More Interesting

It’s officially the point in the Miami summer where getting dressed starts to feel like a negotiation.

The outfits below are what I’ve actually been wearing lately: to dinner, to work, on Father’s Day, and while chasing my kids around. The objective is always the same: stay cool while feeling cool ;)

A few themes kept showing up, so I pulled them together here along with some of the accessories that are pulling a lot of weight.

Cute tops are hard to find. I know this because it’s one of the things my clients ask me to source most often. This one has been getting so many compliments, and I have a feeling the frog closures are part of the reason. We all seem to be having a real moment with them.

This outfit came together easily because the belt echoes the orange sandals, creating that through line we talk about so often. There was already enough color in the outfit, so instead of adding another accent, I let the raffia bag bring texture.

That’s something I think about a lot: not every accessory has to make the same kind of statement. Sometimes texture is the most interesting thing you can add. If I hadn’t been wearing the hat, I probably would have reached for a colorful bag. It’s less about following a formula and more about paying attention to how many focal points an outfit already has.

I took a small in the top, I could probably be an xs but it’s pretty forgiving if you’re in between sizing. I almost always leave the bottom button undone. It's a tiny detail, but it creates movement and keeps an outfit from feeling too buttoned-up (literally lol). One of those small styling moves that makes a bigger difference than you'd expect.
