Cascadian Souvenirs

Here we imagine “geometry of thinking” explorers coming across some ancient Synergetic Geometry. The carved equations are only suggestive, with the image generator taking hints from a provided derivation of the Synergetics Constant.

The sculptures on each pedestal derive from screenshots of actual artifacts in the wild, or, more specifically, from a specific faculty lounge channel.

The image below is from the semi-surreal Google Earth rendering of a pedestrian street corner in Portland, Oregon. The Voodoo Doughnuts storefront and Paris Theater occupy the block, right to left.

Oregon is a name of somewhat mysterious origin and its borders derive from maps of the United States. Adjacent states include Washington (to the north), California and Nevada (to the south), Idaho (to the east), the Pacific Ocean (to the west).

Portland is considered a Pacific Rim city even though it’s significantly inland, on an offshoot tributary of the Columbia River, which starts in Canada on the political data layer. The Port of Portland is tiny compared to Seattle’s, especially when we include South Seattle’s.

The Silicon Forest claymation studio, Laika, is co-venturing with various businesses, and the City of Portland, on a temporary installation of about thirty crow sculptures around town. I’ve been encountering them on my bicycle rides and, without climbing on them, which is prohibited, I’ll create these souvenir pictures.
