1 + 6 = 7 month

In numerology, the number 7 is about faith, wisdom, spirituality, and all matters of the nonmaterial world such as thought, dreams, etc.

It’s a number that ultimately makes us feel a need for solitude, analysis, and exploration of our inner life. In the context of the 1 year, which is about independence, new beginnings and action, the collective is being asked to act on the wisdom and insights uncovered through introspection. My general advice for this month is to pause long enough to hear the soul's direction before taking the next step forward. Don’t be surprised if there are delays in progress, as this reflective chapter may ask us to be still.

Rather than pushing forward at full speed, the collective may feel the need to slow down and gain a clearer understanding of its direction before moving forward. Reflections on spirituality, meaning, mental health, philosophy, and humanity’s relationship with the natural world may become more prominent as people seek a greater sense of purpose and connection. It’s a month that favors inquiry over certainty and contemplation over reaction, encouraging society to align its actions with a deeply examined vision of the future.

Something that has been on my mind lately that is relevant to the theme of this month is how sacred symbols have been stolen from indigenous people (including pre-christian religions of Europe) and removed from their original cultural and spiritual contexts, sometimes reduced to decoration, branding, or entertainment, and in more extreme cases defiled and remade into a tool for hatred and genocide.

Below is a photo of these sacred symbols, some of which that have beed hijacked for hatred, killing, or torture, illustrating how it’s not symbols, technology, and tools that are evil, but rather people and how they abuse them.

The desecration of sacred symbols is, in itself, symbolic of a deeper human tendency to take what is consecrated and transform it into something corrosive and self-destructive—a cycle of vitriol that eventually consumes itself over time.

The example that comes to mind is the Spanish conquest of South America, which involved not only widespread violence and the devastating loss of Indigenous women, men and children, but also a systematic dismantling of existing cultural and spiritual worlds. In many regions, colonial forces and accompanying missionaries destroyed temples, sacred sites, and ritual objects, deliberately erasing Indigenous artifacts and ancient knowledge. Indigenous belief structures were frequently suppressed or reframed through imposed religious frameworks, and countless material records of pre-Columbian civilizations were lost through destruction, looting, or forced abandonment, resulting in a profound cultural rupture that extended far beyond the immediate acts of conquest.

The Spaniards knew what they were doing, which was to successfully erase a people they must target the heritage, culture and ancient knowledge so that any surviving people would have no understanding of what or who they are, which is the template for hegemony and power. This is worse than killing if you can imagine it because not only are the people erased but their light, truth, and understanding of the world is mutated into something vile and unrecognizable. The disconnection from their real source makes them believe the false illusion that was created for them.

The number 7 is often associated with disillusionment and the search for deeper truth, which is why I wanted to reflect on this here. What was done in regions outside of Europe was, in different forms, also done within Europe over long periods of time: layers of history overwritten, ancestral systems displaced, and older ways of understanding the world obscured beneath newer dominant narratives. Pagans were forced to assimilate or be burned alive, and I’d bet on my life that their preserved knowledge and understanding of ancient times was nearly identical to that of the indigenous people across the world. Symbols were taken and distorted or watered down into different meanings. We were all indigenous before this disease consumed our minds, heart and land. The result is an inherited distance from lost knowledge, where imagining alternatives to the present framework becomes difficult. This is something more people need to become aware of, and to begin incorporating it into their broader understanding of history and identity.

In these confusing times, the only certainty is uncertainty, and the only thing we know is that we don’t entirely know where we came from and consequently what is happening today. Small glimmers and surviving remnants of the past point to the understanding of “God” as a mother, a presence reflected in the Earth, Moon, Sun, stars, and in our place within the universe. This is why I made Forest by System of a Down the theme song for this month.

This is one of my favorite songs by SOAD and whenever I listen to it my mind plays a music video depicting a shapeshifting figure singing along to the lyrics resembling all the manifestations of this world and the known universe. First a homeless man, then a bloodied Palestinian girl, a child being trafficked, then a goat, a lizard, a tree, a fish, a world, the galaxy, and beyond—on and on, dissolving form into form.

If the 7 invites us inward, it is not to remain there, but to return with clearer perception.

Fortune favors the brave, and there’s courage in the willingness to see more clearly, even when clarity complicates what once felt certain. There is courage in the reclamation of what was lost and going back to the beginning.
