Boiling a frog: The premise is that if a frog is put suddenly into boiling water, it will jump out, but if the frog is put in tepid water which is then brought to a boil slowly, it will not perceive the danger and will be cooked to death. The story is often used as a metaphor for the inability or unwillingness of people to react to or be aware of sinister threats that arise gradually rather than suddenly.
Yes, you are being cooked. In Australia the socialists have won. It’s probably news to you. They continue to implement a transformational socialist agenda. They utilise a sophisticated strategy of subterfuge which is world leading. Their visionary end game was sown some decades ago and now extends some decades into the future. Patience and focus is their strength.
The May 2026 Australian Federal Budget reveals just how ambitious and effective this socialist agenda is. Forget looking at this budget through the eyes of economic management, sensible taxation, business implications or other. That’s diversionary stuff that has been the focus of just about all commentators and analysts on the budget. No one is looking at this budget through the prism of a brilliant political strategy that’s changing the very fundamentals of the economics and finances that underpin Australia.
Overview of the Socialist Transformation – Capitalism is Out!
No Australian will be untouched by this transformation. Most people will not realise exactly what’s going on. That is, make changes a little at a time and we are transformed without realising.
Understand these simple facts and you’ll understand this revolutionary socialist transformation in play. The agenda is about;
The denial of control, ownership and accumulation of private wealth by the bulk of Australians and the concentration of that wealth into the hands of political and financial networks of elite individuals.
Assaulting home ownership as a fundamental element securing independence in a free society.
Constricting ownership of property as a basis of wealth accumulation and financial independence from the power of the state.
These assaults are aimed at primary elements of a capitalist, free market economy and society. It’s these things that the socialists are targeting. The people most being targeted are the working class, middle and upper middle classes in particular. The socialist vision is an old one. It’s of a society where independence of action is reduced to a structural and institutional dependence on ‘the state.’
The Expanded Idea of ‘The State.’
To understand this, it’s necessary to expand the idea of what ‘they’ mean by ‘the state’ in this transformational Australian socialist agenda.
The ‘state’, under the traditional socialist/communist concepts as considered by Karl Marx and his devotees, meant ‘government’. Government would own and control the means of production. The people/workers would function as a collective in perfect harmony with each other. The problem was and has long proven to be, that this theoretical concept didn’t and doesn’t work in practice. It’s a poverty creator, a destroyer of wealth and wealth distribution.
The key to understanding this failure of the collective concept in practice, is that collectives are always controlled by individuals. Specific individuals, emboldened by their own inflated sense of superiority seek to and end up controlling the collective. Such is their sense of superiority that in exercising control they remove their personal accountability and oppress and punish any who oppose them. The consequences are invariably evil reflecting the worst follies of human nature.
This new Australian socialism has a much broader idea of ‘the state’. It is not just government. It does not rely on government, but rather financial institutions are at the centre. Government is certainly helpful. What we observe in this Australian socialist expanded concept of the state, is a tight network of politically, in this case Labor connected individuals. They operate through various self-protecting public and private institutions and in which government is but one of those institutions.
When this broader concept of the state is understood this socialist agenda reveals itself.
The Socialists have Captured Australian Capitalism
I first touched on this in early 2023 in The New Australian Socialist Experiment. There I explained how the new Labor Treasurer Jim Chalmers in a key article asserted that he was going to “…build a better capitalism, uniquely Australian....” In doing this he said that “…Labor will ditch the free-market policy consensus….” This ‘better capitalism’ is code for the Australian revised version of socialism under this broader concept of ‘the state.’
The starting point for understanding is that a tight network of Labor individuals control the largest single chunk of Australians superannuation retirement money in a near legislative delivered monopoly. To comprehend the ‘boiling the frog’ approach, this compulsory superannuation system was introduced by a Labor government more than 30 years ago. It is only now that the full scale can be grasped.
Not only does the tight Labor network control the $1.6 trillion in the Industry Superannuation funds but Labor is now targeting control of the full $4.5 trillion of the total superannuation pool. The evidence is in the public domain.
This is no longer a socialist ‘experiment’. It’s a living reality and expanding.
The recent announcement (16 July 2026) by Labor Prime Minister Albanese that Australia’s superannuation pool is a ‘national asset’ cannot be ignored. It’s more than just a signal of ambition. Here’s the socialist expansion. The stated intent is that government will direct superannuation funds to spend the retirement money of individuals on the political agendas determined by Labor.
This ‘more than just a signal’ follows the October 2025 announcement by Treasurer Chalmers to change the superannuation rules to “…unlock billions from the $4.5 trillion super system to fund Labor Policy priorities.”
Combine this with the idea floated by Labor icon Paul Keating (July 2026) that superannuation should be merged with Centerlink and the full-blown agenda emerges more clearly. Remember that Paul Keating was the Labor Treasurer/Prime Minister who invented and implemented the compulsory superannuation system in 1992. His utterance must be taken with the full understanding of his decades long vision. The idea is that Centerlink, the government’s social welfare administrator, would control how much of a retiree’s superannuation savings a person could withdraw.
This is pure socialism under any understanding. It’s a further agenda with a vision extending several decades. On past evidence they will succeed in its implementation.
The Destruction of the Private Ownership of Money.
Here’s the brilliant simplicity of this socialist agenda in the takeover of Australian capitalism.
Australia’s superannuation system forces income a person should have, to be deposited into retirement funds where the money cannot be withdrawn. How that money is managed is not controlled by the individual who owns the money. It is controlled by elite, privileged persons, effectively instruments/managers of ‘the state’. In this reality, ownership of money does not mean control. Ownership is reduced to a theoretical legal figment.
Under the new Chalmers/Albanese agenda how that money is controlled and invested is to be directed by the political agenda set by the government. This is socialism implemented through sophisticated political subterfuge.
Now an additional step. Until now, when a person retires, they have access to their money to spend as they see fit. Under the Keating/Centerlink agenda it will be government (the state) that will determine how much of your retirement money you will be allowed to access and when. That is, when you retire, your money is not your money because you do not control it.
Combine these two agendas and effectively money that is privately owned, is only privately owned in legal theory. Who controls the money is the issue. If you have money but you do not have control over how you use it, it’s not really your money in practice. This is the Chalmers Labor idea of a ‘better capitalism’. This is the Chalmers Labor idea of ‘ditching the free-market.’ This is not capitalism in any form. This is socialism. This is the Australian Labor socialist model being implemented where private wealth exists only as a theoretical legal construct. Private wealth does not however exist in practice.
To this point in time, it can be seen that the Labor socialist agenda has targeted the capture of Australian’s compulsory retirement savings. It’s a lot of money. Of the $4.5 trillion in superannuation the Labor network controls $1.6 trillion. The next phase targets control of the entire $4.5 trillion as explained above.
Yes, there remains an active capitalist functioning financial pool operating parallel to the superannuation retirement pool. For example, and as a good comparison Australia’s big four banks collectively manage $4.1 trillion of assets of the $5.9 trillion held by all Australian banks.
And yes, within the total superannuation system there’s the Self-Managed Superannuation Funds (SMSF) system as an escape route. The 1.2 million people in these small funds have effective control of the management of their savings in which there’s a total pool of over $1 trillion.
Predictably the socialists will move to capture both these alternative free market capitalist operations. The ‘national asset’ comments by PM Albanese reinforced by Treasurer Chalmers move to change superannuation investment rules, discussed above, is the first step to grab control of the $1.9 trillion of big superannuation funds money not yet in the socialists’ hands. The first move against SMSFs was revealed in the May 2026 budget detailed below.
These are early moves but remember the socialist vision and patience is long term over decades.
