What two weeks of doing nothing taught me

Keltie Knight · The F*Them Theory

I just spent two weeks doing Euro summer, and I have a confession: I barely opened a to-do list. I barely thought about anything. I spent money with abandon. And you know what? Only about 10% of my gut was whispering, “You are not doing what you’re supposed to be doing.”

The other 90%? Pure, uncomplicated joy.

That ratio has been rattling around in my head ever since. Because if I’m being honest, most of my regular life runs the opposite way. Ninety percent obligation, 10% joy, if I’m lucky. And I keep asking myself the same question:

Somewhere along the way we decided that our worth is measured in inbox-zero and crossed-off lists and being the kind of person who “stays on top of things.” I’m not saying responsibilities aren’t real. They are. They’ll be there when we get back. But nobody, and I mean nobody, has ever said on their deathbed, “Wow, I really wish I’d replied to my emails faster.”

Breathe in the air. Laugh until you cry with the people you love. Eat a big, gooey, absolutely ridiculous slice of pizza and don’t think about a single thing you “should” be doing instead. Let the joy be the point, not the reward you earn after all the important stuff is done.

We’ll get back to work soon. But not today.

F*ck it,

Keltie

P.S. I’m so excited to announce that I’ll be on the Today Show next week talking about my new book, “The Fuck Them Theory: Self-Help for People Who Are Done Being the Bigger Person.” The first reviews are coming in, and I’m thrilled with the response. If you haven’t picked up a copy yet, would you help me out and pre-order? Pre-orders really determine the fate of a book, whether it lands on shelves and at independent booksellers for you to actually find. I promise I won’t let you down. Plus, when you order you get to join 1,500 other friends within my FREE K-Type collective, keeping you on track, inspiring you, and making new friends.

Preorder the Book + Join the Collective

P.P.S. Many of you were asking me for the links to things I wore on vacation. I’m happy to link some of my favorites, like these $30 jelly shoes, my perfect baby doll dress, sunglasses, makeup, and more on my SHOPMY page.
