Today, we continue wandering through gratitude in the reading life.
The calm and quiet present in the library (compared to a home with four kids, a husband, and two guinea pigs).
The gift of books…for free.
The nostalgia of getting a movie on a Friday afternoon for the weekend…for free.
The benefit of trying cookbooks before purchasing and finding out you really only like a few recipes…for free.
The co-working space available…for free.
Note: Do you see a trend?
The fact that the librarian sees me coming and gets the books I requested ready because of the high likelihood I might be carrying a child, fireman-style, out of the building.
All the stories you have brought me.
All the stories you have brought to my children.
All the dad books you have brought my husband.
All the many books in our future.
The first step to loving your library is using it. Go to the library today and get a book!
When there, say “thank you” to the librarian, because they do not hear it enough.
Talk about the library all the time, to your friends and family, on social media, or in newsletters, perhaps?
The library is a treasure that needs our time. attention, and support.
Read with friends.
I am a big fan of book clubs, but buddy reads can be just as satisfying and easier to arrange. With only two people, it’s easier to coordinate a debrief at the community pool, local park, or on a hike. Bonus points if you coordinate reading the same book with friends or family who you are traveling with. You can have your own mini out-of-town book retreat.
Cut up that watermelon from the farmer’s market and have a snack while commenting.
Share what you love about the library.
What was the last book you checked out from the library?
We are in the thick of summer; any obstacles you are running into in your reading life? Share here and let’s help each other find the time to read in the heat.
