It's like you're in the studio with me...

I have had the goal to create more tutorials for a long time. I haven’t been exactly sure how to continue. I am an artist first, I was an educator for a long time and in the last year I have been more seriously focused on the content creation side of sharing my art. I feel lucky that so far I have been able to make content about the art that I am actually making and stayed true to myself as my audience has grown. Maintaining authenticity is very important to me. Craft has always been central to who I am, and art making has always been a holistic part of my life.

Lately I have been trying to bridge these parts of my practice. I want the content itself to feel like an extension of the work, something that can also function as a meaningful educational resource. This spring I have been prioritizing documentation and pushing myself beyond short form videos, taking the time to share the knowledge that feels important to pass on.

This post is part of that shift. It includes a longer video with full voiceover where I walk through the process in a much more thorough way, along with links to the materials I use and return to again and again.

The dream is to put out one of these each month for paid subscribers. Right now, because cyanotype is my seasonal practice, we will be heavy on cyanotype, but I could do something similar with my sculpture and quilt works in the future.

I try to be very open with the cyanotype process and show a lot of it in my free content. Unfortunately as a fairly niche artist I don’t get many paid collaborations. Everyday I try to answer as many questions as I can in the comments, but it can be daunting and extremely repetitive. I want to create a space for other artists that are seriously interested to get all their answers and instructions in one thorough place.

I love that this is the work I get to do, but it is indeed work. All of this is labor. This is my job, and I am passionate about making it worth buying. Paid subscribers help me exist and allow the work and the educational sharing to happen. Without you I would not be able to prioritize any of it in this same way.
