and just like that it's already May!?!!?

Happy Spring and how the hell is it already May?!

Spring has been off and on here in the Sierra Nevada Foothills but I have managed to do quite a bit of cyanotype printing in between the rainstorms. I have been really loving the 18x24 inch size watercolor paper as it is a bit more manageable and fits in my trays. Tulips and Ranunculus have been abundant this Spring both via a friend’s garden and on my visits to Trader Joe’s. So far each week the wild flowers will pop up, then be taken out by heavy rain, only to come back with a vengeance. The wild lupine are sturdy, easy to access and fun to print with. I have also been loving the rectangular format, a diversion from the last few years of my hyper fixation on the oval. I have even thrown in a square! I know, kinda wild.

My newest tutorial Cyanotype Printing with Wild Lupine is now available. This tutorial shows more of the full process in real time of how I print. It’s nearly 9 minutes with an in depth and informative voiceover. My goal is to put one of these out every month, or maybe 4 times a year. Cyanotype is alway a great exercise for me, allowing play and beauty into my practice. with my conceptual work I tend to deal with heavier subject matter. My new work is a series I call Suitable Womb (a phrase my abusive ex would say to me during our marriage) is definitely heavier to make and to view. The botanical cyanotypes really help keeps things light and productive for me on a daily basis in the studio, and therein open my mind and creativity to work on the tougher stuff.

These new sculptures and several other pieces I will be included in the Reveal Reveal show opening June 6th at Shatto Gallery in Los Angeles.

Additionally we will have an exhibit in July in Portland. I am so excited to show with Allied Special Projects curator Mary Lai. Mary and I connected at Tryst last year and she is a phenomenal curator who I helped connect with After/Tme Gallery. I have met a few of the artists at Tryst and Clavo and looking forward to meeting others!

In other upcoming show news, I will be having a solo show of my cyanotype works in Richmond, Virginia this August through The Crone House. I will keep you updated on the details as they get finalized.

I haven’t checked in much with y’all since I returned from Mexico City, where I got engaged to my wonderful partner Cliff! We are still riding the high of being engaged while juggling the realities of our lives as single parents to our respective daughters. At the moment we are pretty disinterested in wedding planning but I am loving the added sparkle of my brown sapphire engagement ring that makes me smile everyday. Maybe a courthouse wedding in the future but enjoying a long engagement for now.
