This morning, I stood watching the sun rise over the mountain.

For a few quiet moments, only its first rays appeared, slipping through the morning clouds until they seemed to set the sky aflame.

And it occurred to me: the horizon wasn’t creating the sunrise. It was simply revealing what had been there all along.

And perhaps, that is precisely what thresholds do.

We often imagine transformation as something that happens at the threshold itself. The decision. The departure. The arrival. The ending. The beginning. That defining moment when one chapter closes and another opens.

But, what if it’s the other way around? What if emergence is not the beginning of transformation, but the first moment we can finally see it?

~ A butterfly does not transform because it emerges from the chrysalis. Its transformation has been quietly taking place within.

~ A snake does not become new because it finally slips free of its old skin. The shedding reveals the growth that made the old skin no longer fit.

~ And the sun does not become brighter because it crosses the horizon.

It was already there. And maybe we are like that, too.

I am standing at a threshold of my own right now. One that has been a long time in the making, although I couldn’t always see where it was leading. And as I watched that fiery orange sun emerge over the mountain this morning, I realized that maybe I have been giving the threshold itself too much credit.

Because the transformation will not take place at a precise moment of time.

It has already happened. In countless quieter moments that came before it. In things released and things chosen. In difficult truths and unexpected joys. In learning what I wanted to hold close and what I was ready to loosen my grip on. In the subtle, sometimes bittersweet recognition that something within me was changing even when I couldn’t yet name what I was becoming.

And yet, this moment matters.

Because crossing a sacred threshold didn’t make me transform; it revealed a truth: I have already transformed.

Maybe that’s true for all of us.

It is so easy to slip into focusing on reaching the milestone, crossing the threshold, getting to the other side, that we can sometimes miss the quieter truth: much of the transformation required to arrive there has already happened.

And perhaps that is why certain thresholds deserve a pause. A breath. A quiet acknowledgment of both what has been and what now stands before us.

Not because the journey is finished, but because this moment matters.

Your Sacred Invitation this week is to emerge.

Look toward your own horizon. Can you recognize where transformation has already begun to reveal itself?

Notice what is already shining through.

And when you catch that first glimpse, perhaps you don’t need to rush toward whatever comes next.

Just stand there for a moment.

Let yourself see it.

Let this moment matter.

Because the light was already there.
