Welcome to your weekly WSUAs where I round up all the things I currently won’t shut up about. It’s all joy and fun so we can start re-building that muscle and start your weekend off right!
What a week! I can feel Maycember nipping at my heels - I’m entering that phase of the year where I panic check my calendar multiple times a day to make sure I’m not forgetting Major Awards Ceremony that will traumatize my children for unforeseeable future if I forget.
And, I’m still getting the important things done!
I’ve jammed writing this newsletter into the ice skating, tennis, Parkour crevices. I’ve been getting enough sleep and I even made time to watch a show with the hubs last night. I’m calling these major wins that deserve celebration! 🎉
What about you? Do you have any small wins that we can celebrate? I’m sure there’s something to be proud of from the week so tell me in the comments so we can cheer you on!
I got dressed! Several times this week!
I went to see Hell’s Kitchen with my mom and sisters and, honestly, was being such a brat about it. I had THINGS TO DO and didn’t have time to sit on my rear for two whole hours. Oh, Kara.
The plot hit especially hard because it’s about a mom and daughter, during the teen years (heaven help us all), but, it’s really about the songs. I’d forgotten the depth and talent of Ms. Alicia Keys. 😭 GAH, I’m so glad I went (running theme of my life).
Okay, styling on this black top is bad news, but I wanted to show you that sometimes your outfit is a miss! (I’ll try again next time.) I still stand by it’s coolness factor, just need to figure out different pants to wear with it…
And it snowed in Denver, 😳 so I had a chance to break out my new sweatsuit I found at the Nike Clearance store (always good finds!).
💄 I tried out the new Merit lipstick (see here for all my Merit recs) and it’s as good as we hoped! The colors are soooo flattering (I’ve been wearing “Kitten Heel” and “Archival” on repeat) and they make my lips feel hydrated in a way other lipsticks just don’t.
🎙️ Speaking of HUGE WINS, one of my friends was on the Amy Porterfield podcast this week, which is massive deal if you’re in the online world. 🎉
If you have a small business, you should definitely listen! She breaks down how to show up in ChatGPT results and makes SEO (scary!) feel totally doable. GREAT JOB, RACH!
🎤 Speaking of podcasts, you’re listening to Amy Poehler’s podcast “Good Hang” right?!?!? It’s exactly what we need right now! She’s such a lovely interviewer, makes everyone seem funny and fun, and I literally drive around giggling like I’m with my bestie. Can’t recommend enough to combat waves hand around.
A couple of faves to get you started are: Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Steve Carrell, Jonathon Groff (😍) and Seth Meyers (they’re totally besties).
👖 YOU HAVE TO BUY THESE PANTS. Yes, I’m yelling because they are THAT GOOD. They’re from Old Navy, which I find to be verrrrrry hit or miss, but these are out-of-the-ballpark good. I’ve worn them almost every day - the slight barrel cut makes them very cool girl, but the elastic waist makes me reach for them every time.
And I feel like the photo on their site makes them look kind of dumpy, but they actually look pretty sharp. I’ve been wearing them with a cropped sweatshirt and sneakers and feel very put together!
👱 I’m trying to grow out my bangs, which is obviously A NIGHTMARE. But, I found this styling powder that is helping a ton.
Basically, you put a few pumps in your bangs, push them back, and it creates a very Pink-like pompadour. It’s saving me from the whole weird stage where they lay flat in your eyes. 10/10 recommend!
📺 Chris and I started watching “Margot’s Got Money Troubles” and it’s everything everyone says it is. The acting is spot on (Michelle Pfeiffer is beyond) and it’s funny and real and I absolutely love it (Chris likes it, which is a pretty stellar rec).
Also, the book was one of my faves from last year so you might want to read it first? The adaptation is pretty close (and the casting is exactly what you’d picture) so you won’t have the usual - why did they mess up this book so badly thing.
Oh, I read a couple of bangers this week!
American Fantasy was everything I hoped it would be. Yes, you get all the behind-the-scenes deets about what it takes to run a boy band cruise (and juicy details about what it’d be like to be in a boy band), but really it’s about embracing middle age and stepping into who you are.
It’s my favorite kind of novel - it feels fast and dishy, but is actually layered with all sorts of truths.
Jon Acuff literally changed my life this week. NO JOKE.
He’s one of my favorite, personal growth authors, but with Procrastination Proof, I feel like he really outdid himself with highly specific tools that WORK (you’re getting this newsletter, aren’t ya?).
Two of my fave takeaways:
You’re allowed to have a remarkable life. 🤯 (Yeah, why would we settle for anything less?!?!)
Set specific goals for things you want to accomplish and then track the crap out of them. (I decided to write 10 hours a week and am tracking it diligently and have been shocked - SHOCKED - to see how much I accomplish when I actually sit down and do it!)
Check out all of my recent reads in one place that easy to peruse!
I’m on a mission with this Substack - to get everyone having more fun! 🎉 So, this week I dove deep into why fun is so important, how you’re probably doing it wrong, and how to make it happen on the daily. 👇
Thanks as always for reading!! I love having you here and hope you have a great weekend!
PS: Okay, tell us one thing you’re proud of yourself for doing this week or a small win!! You got this!! xx.
