For the past month or so, I was playing Hardcore World of Warcraft. Hardcore is a permadeath option for Classic WoW servers. I had dabbled a bit last year, getting to the mid teens before dying and taking a break. This time, a friend and I had a nice duo of a druid and hunter. I played a feral druid, they were a beastmaster hunter, and everything was groovy into the early thirties. Then I got ambushed by some elite troggs while trying to pick up quests outside Gnomeregan, and that was curtains for me at level 32.
Another friend joined us, and we rerolled as a trio of a warrior, mage, and me playing a paladin. Unfortunately, our warrior died around level 14. Their rerolled druid then died around level 15, and they decided to just take their level 20 priest and use that with our mage and paladin. Unfortunately for Daphne Stilwell, my paladin died at level 20 while attempting to do the Verigan’s Fist quest.
I still love Hardcore and find it my favorite flavor of World of Warcraft. The emotional investment that makes it so much more exciting also delivers a real gut-punch when your character dies. I’m ready for a break.
