Hey all,

Yesterday we dropped the teaser trailer for A Fool’s Errand!

B Marsollier wrote the script and acted, Shaun Oldfield cut the video, and I composed the music and did audio editing.

Today marks two weeks out from the Kickstarter Launch.

PRE-SAVE THE KICKSTARTER

A month ago, we released the demo version of the game on itch for free.

Since then, we’ve had our first developmental editing meeting with our superstar editor, Sam Leigh! Sam is helping us with the mechanics and structure of the manuscript at this point. In our short time working together, they’ve already made me fall in love with the game all over again.

CHECK OUT SAM'S WORK

We’ve been playing A Fool’s Errand on Planet Arcana in Episodes 77 and (upcoming) 78! These are in canon, so, riddled with spoilers - but the cast are playing entirely new characters for just these two episodes, so if you don’t mind spoilers you could jump in for a listen.

PLANET ARCANA PLAYS A FOOL'S ERRAND

A Fool’s Errand is the largest crowdfunding venture I’ve done.

I’m really excited that the game has some eyes on it - our initial goal for Kickstarter pre-saves before launch was 400, and we hit that yesterday. My brain is a bowl of jello after this process, so dumbassedly I set our new goal at 420 - it looks like we’ll hit that today, too.

In the months (now weeks) leading up to launch day, I have been buckled into a self-confidence rollercoaster against my will. I occasionally feel like an alien trying to be human when I adspeak about the game. My screentime usage is comically high, considering most of my time spent on social media is just refreshing notifications. Consuming other media like movies, reading, or video games is often framed in my stupid workbrain as “research;” it’s productive, therefore, worthy of doing.

Anyway, I’m being a little vulnerable about this because every time I go through this process, it gets easier. I get better at it.

Funding indie projects is layered - on the surface, a lot of us are treating it like a pre-order. Back this campaign, and you’re going to get a cool game in the mail. On a deeper level, you’re also investing in that creator and their future projects. To bring this back around to me, backing A Fool’s Errand is a vote of confidence in the games I’m going to make in the years to come. It is deeply special to reframe this in my stupid workbrain from “consumers buying a product” to “people believing in me.”

I’m so excited to get A Fool’s Errand into your hands. It’s a game that is a massive piece of myself and my co-creator, B. It’s also been touched by a ton of our peers who have guided us along this process because they believe in us.

It’s a good game. I believe in it.

I may squeeze one more email in before the Kickstarter campaign begins on October 22nd. In either case, see you on launch day.

PRE-SAVE A FOOL'S ERRAND

Here’s some creators I believe in:

Elliot Davis is making the saddest game you’ve ever seen about two brothers playing out their final conversation in a zombie apocalypse. I included this in my previous newsletter, but it’s so damn good I need to include it again.

Pre-save The Time We Have

Skye Wallace is releasing their new album on November 1st. It’s grungy, and about near-death experiences, dream worlds, loss, and rebirth. It’s heavy and wonderful. If you’re in Ontario, there’s a bunch of tour dates from mid- to late- October.
