Journal Solution Focused Prac · Journal of Solution Focused Practices

I am delighted to announce that we have had a record number of new papers submitted in the past few weeks. Eight articles arrived and are now in various states of consideration and peer review. Thank you to everyone. And we can still take more! Please send in your articles (via the website) and article ideas (to the editor).

Here are the articles published in March 2026, including an important landmark review of SF visualisations:

Dierolf, K. (2026). Visualizing Solution Focused Practice: A Critical Review of Diagrams and Models in Theory and Application. Journal of Solution Focused Practices, 10(1), 47–69. https://doi.org/10.59874/001c.159483

Abstract

Visualizations and diagrams are widely used in psychotherapy, coaching, and organizational practice to make abstract processes tangible and communicable. In Solution Focused (SF) practice, which emphasizes minimalism, responsiveness, and co-construction, the adoption of diagrams raises distinctive opportunities and challenges. This article presents a narrative literature review and critical reflection on visualizations of SF practice published between 2002 and 2023. It identifies two main families of models—quadrant models that map theoretical orientations and flow/process models that depict conversational movement. The analysis considers their pedagogical strengths, theoretical assumptions, and limitations. The article argues that while visualizations support teaching, communication, and professionalization, they also risk oversimplifying or distorting SF’s focus on the emergence of a conversation.

Priest, D. (2026). Go Beyond: Solution-Focused Organisational Development and Design – Book 2 Support the Evolution of Complex Systems by Elvira Kalmar. Journal of Solution Focused Practices, 10(1), 44–46. https://doi.org/10.59874/001c.159405

Having read and reviewed this book’s predecessor, I approached Book 2 with both expectancy and, if I am honest, a measure of caution. Book 1 drew me in at the level of interaction—conversations, reframing, practical tools I could immediately use with individuals and teams. Book 2 moves decisively into the territory of Organisational Development and Design. It is the next stage of the journey. And the shift is significant.
