“It’s a democracy!”
“No! It’s a constitutional republic!”
Most precisely, the USA is a constitutional federal republic with a representative democracy - each term describing a different feature of the system. But we should not put semantics before substance.
There are ultimately only two kinds of systems: good systems and bad systems.
A good system is judged on three main metrics. Does it:
produce good results,
resist corruption,
and continuously evolve as new problems and knowledge emerges?
In America, our political system may have once been among the best ever created. It endured for centuries, protected many freedoms, helped generate extraordinary prosperity, and added even more freedoms over time. But systems should not be judged only by their history. They should be judged by how well they function today.
The system in America is failing to get results, it is not resisting corruption, and it is not adapting and evolving as a system.
That makes it a bad system. A failed system.
Only once we accept this - and correctly identify the problem - can we begin to solve for it. Like all corrupt systems, a very reliable answer is to simply build a new one that is harder to corrupt, gets better results, and is willing to adapt. We build it parallel to the corrupt one. After the new system is built, we migrate to it, and plug the new system in to save our country - and world - from these bad corrupted systems that are hurting us all.
The solution is simple.
Not easy.
But simple.
