The Castle, my new book. News.

Sorry I haven’t been touch. I’ve been finishing my new book, my first in eleven years - The Castle. Anyway, it’s very done now. I’m being cloak-and-dagger about its story, but I like how this preview in The Shortlist described it:

Oh, to move onto a different matter, I won’t be turning on paid subscriptions for my substack again. It was too stressful. It reminded me of writing a weekly column in the Guardian when I started to pray something bad would happen in my domestic life so I’d have something to write about. But I didn’t want to be a selfish giant with the previously paywalled posts, so I’ve just removed the paywall to them all.

It was a pretty niche substack, to pre-warn you. It was just me writing about the process of narrative nonfiction, while I was figuring it out myself. Anyway, paywall removed now.
