There can be only… two?

I’m very excited to announce the forthcoming release of my next book, The Art & Making of Highlander, the official 40th anniversary look at the 1986 action/fantasy/romance classic that I’ve been working on for the last 12 months or so.

As revealed on Superherohype.com:

The book, published by Titan Books and by Jonathan Melville, is the first official art book for the cult classic film and is set to be released on September 1, 2026. The book comes shrinkwrapped and decorated with spot UV gloss on the cover for a special shine, and also features brand new interviews with cast and creatives behind the movie.

It’s now up for pre-order from all bookstores, but I know the most popular will be on Amazon (the following include affiliate links):

If you’re subscribed to this site, then you might know that I previously wrote an unofficial book on the film that was published in 2020, A Kind of Magic: Making the Original Highlander. I spoke to more than 50 cast and crew, including stars Christopher Lambert and Clancy Brown, director Russell Mulcahy, and even two members of Queen, Brian May and Roger Taylor.

So what’s left to say about the film?

Well, this time I had access to memos and unseen photos from the production, including images of deleted scenes that I discussed in the first book but couldn’t show. I also tracked down some people I wanted to interview last time but couldn’t find in time, and I got a chance to go back to the likes of Russell Mulcahy and Roxanne Hart to discuss those deleted scenes I mentioned.

While this book tells the same basic story as A Kind of Magic, it also goes places the first one didn’t and approaches some aspects from a different angle.

I’ve discovered things even I didn’t know until just a few months ago, and I can guarantee even the biggest Highlander fans will come away with new facts and insights that have never been published before.

PLUS you’ll get to see as many well-known and rare photos as the designer could squeeze in!

I don’t have a pre-order link yet, but the book is due out on 1st September, making it the perfect Christmas present.

It’s been a pleasure to revisit the Highlanderverse for the project, particularly in this anniversary year when a reboot/remake is being filmed in London and Scotland starring Henry Cavill and Russell Crowe - I’ll bring you more on the book in the coming months.
