Jo-Lynne Shane · Everyday Style Notes by Jo-Lynne Shane

Good morning! I hope you’re having a great weekend.

It’s been a lazy one over here. We got takeout for dinner two nights in a row, and last night my daughter and I watched How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, which was fun.

We’ve been having super hot and humid weather, so I was hoping to get in the pool yesterday, but right about the time I was going to put on my swimsuit, it clouded over and started to rain. I’m hoping for better luck this afternoon!

As usual, I’ve got the Top Ten of the Week and my Weekly Edit for you today. And it’s the last day to shop the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale, so if there’s anything you’ve had your eye on, today’s the last chance to get the sale price.

Yesterday I rounded up 5 Things I’d Buy Before the #NSale Ends, so be sure to check that out if you missed it.

Have a great day!

xx,
Jo-Lynne

These were your favorites this week:

  1. Caslon Bubble Hem Cotton Twill Jacket
This is such a great little layering jacket for fall, with an easy, roomy fit, an on-trend stand collar, and a bubble hem. I love the olive, and most sizes have been restocked! It runs large, so size down if you’re between sizes. I have the small.

  2. PAIGE Leenah High Waist Wide Leg Jeans
A slim wide-leg jean with a chic bowed silhouette in super-stretchy dark-wash denim. They’re so flattering and perfect for a casual office or dressing up for date night. They also come in petite sizes. They run true to size, or size down if you’re between sizes.

  3. J.Crew Cashmere Patch-Pocket Cardigan

Soft, luxe, and incredibly versatile. I especially love this one for travel. I wear it buttoned up for dinner, layered over tees and dresses for sightseeing, or over pajamas in my hotel room. It runs true to size, or size down if you’re between sizes. I have the small.

  4. PAIGE Anessa High Waist Wide Leg Jeans (wearing above)
The top-selling jeans in the #NSale this year, these are a slightly slimmer version of the original PAIGE Anessa, made from soft, stretchy denim in a flattering dark wash with finished hems for a polished look. They run true to size, or size down if you’re between sizes. I wear the 29.

  5. PAIGE Anessa in Vintage Champagne Stone
The same great fit of the PAIGE Anessa wide-leg jeans in a beautiful fall hue. This shade pairs easily with black and other neutrals, as well as burgundy, plum, green, and blue. This pair seems to run big; I sized down to the 28.

  6. Steve Madden Define Block Heel Bootie
The top-selling boot from the #NSale, and for good reason. They’re a great value, the quality is excellent for the price point, and the casual low block heel makes them very wearable. They run big, so size down a half size.

  7. Rails Jett Check Crop Trench Coat
Super chic cropped trench with a subtle bubble hem and storm flap in a great shade of olive that’s perfect for fall layering. It has such a flattering fit, with easy raglan sleeves. It runs true to size, or size down if you’re between sizes. I have the small.

  8. Talbots Twist Front Knit Midi Dress
Another soft jersey knit dress with a fun twist-front detail, but this one is midi length with an off-center front slit, which I think gives it such a modern feel. The red-and-white stripe is fun for late summer into fall.

  9. HOBO Jill Leather Trifold Wallet
The perfect size for smaller bags while still holding plenty of cards. This glazed leather trifold wallet has brushed antique hardware and a compact design that doesn’t take up a ton of room in your bag.

  10. Z Supply Mattie Striped Mini Dress
I love this little jersey cotton tie-waist dress in the black-and-ivory stripe. It’s so easy to throw on with a pair of thong sandals or sneakers. Size up if you’re between sizes; I wear the medium.

A little collection of style finds, beauty favorites, useful discoveries, and whatever else caught my attention this week.

📚 Reading, Watching & Listening

I started binge-watching House Hunters International while I’m working in the evenings. They’re still releasing new seasons, and I love seeing what housing is like in different parts of the world.

My daughter and I have also watched My Best Friend’s Wedding, Father of the Bride, and How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days. I’ll miss my movie partner when she goes back to college! I’ve also been told I need to watch Midnight in Paris with Owen Wilson, so I’ve got that in my queue.

I haven’t really been reading much lately, but when I was at the beach, I finished Summerland Cove, which I bought when we were in Maine, and I have Family of Spies on my nightstand.

As far as listening, the Mel Robbins episode on organizing your life and home with the experts behind The Home Edit is a fun one. Now I want to watch their show!

👗 This Week's Style Finds

I stopped into EVEREVE when I was at the mall and came home with this stand collar raglan bomber and a pair of the rag & bone Miramar pants that feel like sweatpants but look like jeans.

I’ve added both to my Paris/Switzerland Packing List, which is still very much a work in progress. I keep throwing things on there that I might want to bring, but I need to start playing around with outfit combinations to see what works together and figure out where the holes are.

👟 Sneaker Hunt

I’m on the hunt for a stylish walking sneakers for my trip. I don’t know if I want black or brown, but I know I don’t want white. So far, I’ve ordered a couple pairs of VIVAIA sneakers, these Prologue sneakers, and these Blondo waterproof sneakers to try.

And I’m still trying to get the right size in the Dolce Vita Viper sneakers. I love the brown-and-black combo, but they run super small. I’m normally an 8.5 in Dolce Vita sneakers, but I’ve already sent back the 8.5 and 9. I just ordered the 9.5 and 10, so hopefully one of those will fit!

I guess I could just wear my brown adidas Spezials, but I’m kind of wanting something with more of that minimalist retro sneaker look that’s so on trend right now. I might bring my aluminum/black Spezials and a different pair of brown sneakers, if I find something good. I’ll be gone for almost three weeks, so having two pairs of sneakers probably makes sense, especially if I don’t bring any boots.

✈️ Travel Gear

I definitely don’t need another travel makeup bag in my life, but when I saw the new AWAY Featherlight Daily Cosmetic Case, I had to try it. It just came in, but I haven’t had a chance to test it out yet. I plan to play around with it this afternoon.

💄 Beauty Pick

My daughter swears by this Charlotte Tilbury setting spray, so I got her the Duo while it’s part of the #NSale. She let me try it, and wow, it really is good! It leaves your skin with a nice matte finish, so you don’t need as much powder, which can settle into fine lines and pores if you use too much.

💛 A Few More #NSale Finds

Not sure how I missed these, but these suede Vionic moc toe loafers and this Caslon suede button front jacket both caught my eye.

These suede ankle boots are right on trend and priced under $100, and these tall boots have a low, walkable heel and sleek styling. They would look great with casual skirts and dresses this winter.

I also have a feeling these tie neck sweaters are going to be trending this year.

And before the sale ends, be sure to browse the makeup and skincare to see if any of your favorites are included. This is a great time to stock up!

I ordered the neuLASH to try. I love my RevitaLash, but lately I feel like it’s been irritating my eyes. I’ve heard neuLASH can be gentler, so I’m hoping it works just as well.

Also, I can’t believe the Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk lip set is still available!

🏃‍♀️ A Fresh Take on Activewear

Athleta just launched The Wilder Run Collection, a fun take on traditional performance wear. The collection combines their lightweight Featherweight Stretch fabric with pleated details and more fashion-forward silhouettes, while still being designed for movement, airflow, and comfort.

The Plissé Run Shorts and Plissé Skort are both really cute, and you could easily wear them casually as well as for exercise. And the Plissé Jacket is a fun statement piece if you like your activewear with a little more personality. It’s perfect for throwing on over your favorite tank or tee going to and from the gym.

Also, my favorite Mesh Racer Run Mid Rise 4” Shorts are 40% off right now in select colors, so I just grabbed the Mystic/Morning Glory, a fun blue combo. I love these for gym workouts when it’s too hot for leggings.
