If you’re thinking about quitting alcohol, do it. The health benefits alone are monumental. If you’re already alcohol-free, stick with it! I know too many people who regret going back to drinking after a period of abstinence.
Here are some reminders to stick with your decision whether you’re considering quitting or already quit.
1. I didn’t have a rock bottom moment, and you don’t need one either.
2. The decision is simple but doesn’t mean it’s easy. Stick with it anyway.
3. No matter what happens in the future, good or bad, alcohol is no longer an option. There are many ways to celebrate and cope - alcohol just isn’t one of them.
4. Whatever the problem, nervous system regulation is the answer.
5. Notice. Get curious. What sparks your interest? What do you want to do now that alcohol is no longer part of your life?
6. Focus on adding things in versus taking away/depriving.
7. Little things done consistently make the most significant difference. Pick 1-3 healthy routines or resources you can repeat daily to build new neuroplasticity.
8. Quitting drinking is the best thing you can do for your physical, mental, emotional, financial, spiritual, professional, and relational health.
9. There’s never a good time of the year to stop drinking, but any day of the year is the perfect day to stop.
10. It takes a village. You must address your biochemical deficiencies and limbic system dysfunction and create a comprehensive approach to nourishing your whole body and life.
I’m so glad I stopped on December 14, 2014.
