I don’t think Maher’s fortune came from his “cautious approach to spending” but rather from his being a witty comic who is a reliable pro-capitalist propagandist. Here’s an example of how he serves the ruling class:

HBO host Bill Maher elicited gasps from his audience during his Friday monologue in which he warned against the rise of overt communism among younger democratic socialists who have infiltrated the Democratic Party.
“Donald Trump has told one trillion lies, but when he says the Democratic Socialists of America are actually communist, that’s not one of them. And it’s not hard to prove it, just by quoting the DSA and their candidates. It gives me no pleasure to have to do this,” Maher said during a segment in last week’s episode of “Real Time with Bill Maher.”
Maher went on to cite the DSA platform’s language on work — “You work as much as you are able and no more than needed” — as nearly identical to Karl Marx’s “from each according to his abilities, to each according to his needs.” He also highlighted Democratic New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani for having tweeted Marx’s words directly, noting, “They’re not trying to hide it.”
Maher also pinpointed left-wing influencer Hasan Piker’s praise for communism and his lament over the fall of the Soviet Union and Maoist China, as well DSA candidates such as Darializa Avila Chevalier, who has supported “seizing the means of production.”
Maher equated such language with communism, saying, “That’s communism, which we tried, and it doesn’t work.” He noted other candidates who have expressed support for abolishing borders and prisons.
He also mentioned comments from Mamdani’s top aide Cea Weaver, who affirmed the government’s “sacred right to seize property” and referenced goals that include impoverishing the white middle class.
When Maher read a 2017 tweet from Weaver that expressed her desire to “elect more communists,” members of his audience audibly responded in shock, to which Maher replied: “Good! I’m glad you’re shocked. People gotta realize this is going on.”
The fact is that the vast majority of people would LOVE to remove the rich from power to have real, not fake, democracy with no rich and no poor, as I prove here.
Here are some more facts relevant to Bill Maher’s deceitful pro-capitalism propaganda.
As early as 1775 in his Code de la Nature ou le Veritable esprit de Ses Lois a Frenchman named Morelly wrote that his aim was “To distribute work according to capacity; products according to needs.” The same idea appears even earlier, in the Bible (Acts, 4:34-35): “Neither was there any among them that lacked: for as many were possessors of lands or houses sold them, and brought the prices of the things that were sold, And laid them down at the apostle’s feet: and distribution was made unto every man according as he had need.”
Note that while Marx used the phrase, “From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs” in his “Critique of the Gotha Program,” his point was that society could NOT be based on this principle until far FAR in the future. Here are his exact words:
In a higher phase of communist society, after the enslaving subordination of the individual to the division of labor, and therewith also the antithesis between mental and physical labor, has vanished; after labor has become not only a means of life but life’s prime want; after the productive forces have also increased with the all-around development of the individual, and all the springs of co-operative wealth flow more abundantly -- only then can the narrow horizon of bourgeois right be crossed in its entirety and society inscribe on its banners: From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs!
According to the authors of this Monthly Review article, "Back in 1987, a poll of the U.S. population indicated that 45 percent of the population believed that Marx’s famous words from the “Critique of the Gotha Programme” delimiting communism—'from each according to his ability, to each according to his needs'—were enshrined in the U.S. Constitution. This, of course, said more about the absolute ideals of most Americans, and what they thought they should expect, than about the U.S. Constitution itself.19"
As I wrote about earlier here, the DSA unfortunately does NOT advocate “From each according to ability to each according to need.” The DSA advocates reforming capitalism and retaining some rich and some poor. DSA politicians also, apparently, say things such as wanting to “impoverish the white middle class”—things that seem designed to make people fear the egalitarian goal of ending class inequality. The DSA, for example, calls for abolishing prisons, but it does this in a manner that seems to advocate not imprisoning dangerous anti-social people. In stark contrast, my egalitarian article titled, “What Replaces the Prison?,” begins with these words: “The prisons in the United States should be abolished, for reasons discussed below. This does not mean that anti-social people who pose a threat to the safety and well-being of innocent people should remain free to harm others. Such dangerous people--e.g., serial killers, rapists, delusional people who think others are monsters or enemies they must kill, etc.--should be physically restrained from harming others. Whatever form this physical restraint takes, it will indeed be a physical restriction of the freedom of the restrained person and hence it may reasonably be called a "prison." If it is called a prison, however, it will be something the purpose of which is entirely different from the purpose of the current prisons in the United States.” What would a pro-capitalist propagandist ever do without the convenient DSA to use as Bill Maher does?
Regarding “seizing the means of production,” who does Bill Maher say OUGHT to own the means of production, uh? Let him say that he wants Elon Musk to continue to personally own practically all of the Tesla factories and X/Twitter computer servers, and we’ll really see have-nots gasping!
