I feel like I am counting down to a pivotal life event. It’s only 2 more days before I will start my training to become a Doula. I am completely consumed by the thought and I dont have capacity for anything else. Wisely, I emptied my complete agenda for this week so that I could focus. There is a lot going through my head and there is even homework that I need to complete before Friday. Ahhhh, it’s so exciting. I have scary butterflies all over.
So, I decided to pour some of this energy into this place and share a couple of insights with you, why I think every woman deserves having a Doula and why I want to be a Doula in the future.
And indeed, the benefits of having a doula might seem straightforward – guidance, support, and a calming presence. But there is more a Doula brings to the table (and this is only a selection):
Your Personal Advocate: During labor, things can move quickly, and it might be challenging to communicate your wishes effectively. That's where a Doula steps in. They're there to ensure your birth plan is respected and to communicate your preferences when you might not be able to. It's like having a trusted friend in the room who knows exactly what you want and ensures you're heard.
Postpartum Mental Health Support: While the focus is often on the birthing process, the postpartum period can be equally challenging. Doulas are attuned to the signs of postpartum mood disorders and can provide resources, support, and referrals, ensuring that new mothers don't feel isolated or overwhelmed.
Enhanced Partner Involvement: Doulas don't replace the role of the partner; they enhance it. With a doula's guidance, partners can play a more active and confident role in the birthing process, ensuring that everyone feels connected and empowered during this journey.

As I set out on my journey to become a Doula, I'm eager to go a bit further into these benefits and share them with you. Because every woman deserves comprehensive support during one of life's most transformative moments.
