Joe RUKUNDO · The Hearth

Hey, it’s me, Joe.

I need you to stop for one second before you read anything else. Whatever you were doing before you opened this, whatever kind of day you were having, good or bad, I need you to just breathe and give me two minutes. Because what I am about to tell you took my breath away tonight, and I have not been the same since.

Life is such a simple thing. We wake up, we scroll our phones, we laugh at something, we complain about something small, we go to sleep, and we do it all again tomorrow. We think we have time. We think tomorrow is guaranteed. But life does not work like that. It can flip, completely, in only a few seconds. One video. One photo. One moment where everything you thought you knew about someone’s life gets ripped open in front of you. That is exactly what happened to me tonight, and it has not stopped shaking me since.

I was lying in bed, just scrolling through Instagram like any other night, phone brightness low, half tired, not expecting anything to hit me. Then a video showed up on my feed. It was Mitsutsu. Now, this was not the first time I had heard something about his brother’s illness. I had seen little mentions here and there before and, honestly, I scrolled past them like we all do, telling myself I would look into it later. Later never came. But tonight was different. Tonight I saw him crying.

And when I see a grown man crying, I know something serious is happening. Men do not cry for small things. So I told myself, let me go and see what is going on. Let me find out why he is asking people for help and why his eyes are full of tears.

I was not ready for what I found.

I watched the video. I looked at the photos. And I sat there in my bed thinking, am I dreaming right now, or is this actually real. What I saw was so hard, so heavy, that I could not hold myself together. I started crying too. I got goosebumps all over my body. I tried to control my emotions and I could not. I just could not resist it.

Look at what you just watched. Look at that photo again if you have to. Now imagine that this is not a stranger on your screen. Imagine this is your own brother, your own son, your own blood, lying there like that while the person who loves him most has nothing left to give.

My first thought was simple. Bro, how can I help you. I am broke myself. I do not have the kind of money that can change something this big. And for a moment I thought, maybe I will just pray for him. But then something in me said, that is not enough. Prayer matters, but this family needs more than words right now.

So I thought twice, and I remembered something. I have an audience here on Substack. People who read what I write, people who have good hearts, people who have helped others before when it mattered. And I thought, if I publish this here, maybe, just maybe, the right person will see it.

If you are reading this right now, I do not believe you found this post by accident. I believe this is part of something bigger. I believe this is God’s plan working through ordinary people like you and me to save the life of Mitsutsu’s brother.

According to what Mitsutsu himself has shared, this began years ago while his brother was still in school, still just a young boy carrying his books like any other student with his whole life ahead of him. Something small showed up. The kind of thing a family notices, treats, and prays will just go away on its own. It did not go away. It grew, slowly at first, and then faster than any of them could keep up with, until it became something none of them could control anymore.

Today his brother has lost his nose completely. It is gone. One eye no longer works at all, closed forever in darkness. And the second eye, the very last light he has left in this world, is fading too, a little more with each passing day, and nobody, not even the doctors, can tell this family how much longer it will hold on.

I need you to actually sit with that, not just read past it. Somewhere in a hospital bed right now, a young man is losing the ability to see his own mother’s face, his own brother’s face, forever, one eye at a time. He is suffering for a pain that most of us would not be able to handle or resist even for one single day. Meanwhile his brother, the same man who has spent years giving all of us reasons to laugh and forget our own problems for a while, has quietly spent every coin he owns trying to buy him more time on this earth. Mitsutsu is not exaggerating when he says he is totally broke right now. He gave everything he had. He kept performing, kept smiling on that stage under those lights, while at home, in private, he was falling apart.

I am asking you, please, think about it. Think twice. If this was your own brother lying in that hospital bed, if this was your own family running completely out of money and out of options, would you not want a stranger somewhere in the world to stop scrolling for once and actually feel something? Feel him. Really feel what he is going through right now, even for just one minute, before you continue scrolling past this post like it is just another sad story on your feed.

There are so many videos on the internet already telling people that Mitsutsu needs help. But whether or not you ever see one depends only on your FYP, on an algorithm that does not care who is suffering, and so many people scroll past without ever stopping to look deeper into what is actually happening. That is not your fault. But now that you know, now that you have seen it with your own eyes, you cannot say you did not know anymore.

Think about the Rwandans who use his voice on Snapchat filters every single day. Think about everyone on TikTok who has used his sound without even knowing his real name, without knowing that behind that laughter is a man crying himself to sleep because he cannot save his own brother. Mitsutsu is one of the most talented comedians we have, someone who has given so many of us more happiness than he will ever know, and now it is his turn to receive some of that same kindness back.

Please understand something. When a person finally reaches the point of asking others for help, it does not mean he is weak. It means his own energy and his own power are no longer enough to carry this challenge alone. That takes something in a person to admit. We have to support and help our neighbours, our friends, our countrymates, and even people we have never met, because we truly never know where this earth is planning to put us tomorrow. Today it is Mitsutsu’s brother. Tomorrow, none of us know.

You do not need to be rich to help. You do not need to know Mitsutsu personally. You just need to still be someone who believes that a person losing his eyesight, losing his whole world in darkness, deserves a real chance at keeping some light left.

You can send help directly, right now, to: +250 781 967 293, Mobile Money, registered to Kazungu Emmanuel (Mitsutsu)

It does not matter if it is small. A little from many hands can become something huge. And if you truly cannot give anything financially right now, please still do this one thing for me.

I am not asking you to just read this and close the tab. I am asking you to actually do something with what you just felt. That tightness in your chest right now, that lump in your throat, do not let it disappear the moment you swipe away. Let it push you to press one button.

Send it to your family group, the one where everyone actually reads what gets posted. Send it to the friend who has a good heart and always shows up when someone is struggling. Send it to people you have not spoken to in months, because a life is worth breaking that silence for. Restack it so it does not just sit on your page, it moves, it spreads, it reaches someone you will never meet who might be the one person able to change everything for this family.

You may never know whose hands this post ends up in because you cared enough to pass it forward. It could be a doctor. It could be someone with the exact means to help. It could be a stranger with a soft heart and a little extra to give. We do not get to choose that. All we get to choose is whether we tried.

Please do not let this family carry this alone in silence while the rest of us scroll on to the next thing like nothing happened. Somebody’s brother is fighting for his sight and for his life right now. Let your share be the reason someone else finds out in time to help.

Please share, please give what you can, and please keep Mitsutsu and his brother close in your prayers.
