Joe Hill · Joe’s Substack

Welcome to this in-no-way-normal issue of Escape Hatch.

King Sorrow, my first novel in almost a decade, is out now, in hardcover, as an ebook, and on audio. You can find it everywhere books are sold in the U.S., the U.K., and Canada. If autographs are your jam, signed editions are available widely, all across the country, at many of your favorite independent bookstores. Barnes & Noble still has them as well. British readers need not feel left out—there are signed books available from a variety of vendors, and in a variety of flavors, including this smokin’ hot edition from Black Crow Books (just look at that scaly spredge!).

I could tell you what the book is all about (most subscribers of Escape Hatch have heard it and heard it), or you could just read today’s rave review in the New York Times.

I know it’s been a while since the last one, but I gave this one everything I got—I hope you have a blast with it.

Black Phone 2 is the number one movie in America and in the world. It’s also Certified Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes, and sporting a scary-good mid-80s score on the Popcorn Meter. Haven’t seen it yet? What are you waiting for? Answer the call.

Hard to believe there could be more—but aside from King Sorrow, today is also the release date of The Best American Science Fiction and Fantasy, edited by Nnedi Okorafor, which includes my Amazon Original, “Ushers.” I’m awfully grateful and glad to have one of mine in among so many terrific modern weird tales; I hope there’s room on your bookshelf for this one too.

I’m banging this out in a hotel room in San Diego and off in just a few minutes for a King Sorrow launch day event sponsored by Warwicks. My full schedule of upcoming appearances is right here. I hope if I’m coming by your part of the world, you’ll stop on by to hear my blab and snag a book. I’d love to see you.

Be well and happy reading — Joe
